Two Magpies Bakery Named High Street Café Retailer of the Year

Two Magpies has been crowned Café Retailer (High Street) of the year in the annual sandwich and food-to-go industry awards, The Sammies.

The Sammies honour the achievements of the sector’s finest retailers, suppliers and manufacturers in the UK. This year, an esteemed panel of industry judges selected final heat winners in each category to progress to the live final, with winners announced at an awards evening at the Royal Lancaster in London.

Two Magpies Bakery Group, which operates a bakery and 11 bakery/cafés throughout Norfolk and Suffolk, was named the winner in the Café Retailer (High Street) category, fighting off stiff competition from Caffé Nero, Cornish Bakery, Coffee House, Costa Coffee and Starbucks.

“We are so proud to claim the award for Café Retailer (High Street) against such strong competition. It is a testament to our incredible team, their dedicated customer service and the products they make by hand every single day,” comments Steve Magnall, owner of Two Magpies Bakery.

The Café Retailer Award recognises the work being done by café retailers to develop the high street market. Submissions were judged on the standard of the facilities, shopping experience, customer care, presentation, product quality, sales success, marketing, product innovation and NPD. Judges looked at each submission alongside market data sourced from consumer insight companies Kantar, Lumina Intelligence and FutureFoodservice.

“It was wonderful to attend the awards as a second-generation business, with my son Ben Magnall as director, along with myself. This is a family business ultimately rooted in the community,” explains Steve Magnall, owner of Two Magpies Bakery Group. “Winning awards like this is ultimately a team effort and testament to the fantastic service they provide and delicious products they make by hand. We also use the best local ingredients where we can in all our baked goods and enjoy having a local feel in each of our cafés. We are particularly honoured to have won this category against both national and global brands,” adds Steve.

This award win comes off the back of a string of accolades for the group so far this year, with Two Magpies recently walking away with Britain’s Best Cake in the annual Britain’s Best Cake Awards and Britain’s Best Loaf Award for its Gluten Free Artisan Loaf. Two Magpies Bakery Group produces all its own baked goods at its dedicated bakery in Walpole, Suffolk and operates 10 bakery/cafés across Norfolk and Suffolk.
