Independent coffee company, Paddy & Scott’s, is teaming up with six-time UK Latte Art Champion and World Latte Art Championship competitor, Dhan Tamang, to host the Latte Art Throwdown at Kavi Coffee London, on Thursday 19th November.
Paddy & Scott’s is known for its commitment to fair wages for the coffee farmers it partners with, and it builds that ethos into every link of its supply chain. This event marks a bold new chapter: a head-on collision between the commercial and specialty coffee worlds, brought to life through pour, pattern and pure skill.
Sixteen baristas will go head-to-head in a knockout showdown and Paddy & Scott’s is inviting its own customers to step up and compete alongside seasoned barista champions, a rare crossover that puts everyday baristas toe-to-toe with some of the best in the business, all on the same competition floor.
Kit Wilkins-Smith, Paddy & Scott’s Coffee Development Manager, will be MC on the night. He says, “I’m super excited for this event! The country folk from Paddy & Scott’s are heading to the big smoke! We need more coffee bods in the world, and what better way to get them than by bringing two worlds together. We’ll have eight professional baristas and eight hospitality legends battling it out and showing off their latte art skills. Round one kicks off with a classic heart, never to be underestimated as we go back to basics! And what better place to host it than 6x champion Dhan Tamang’s new coffee shop, Kavi? This is going to be awesome, so be sure to secure your ticket and join the fun!”
Born in Nepal and based in the UK since 2007, Dhan has spent years pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in a cup. He’s as passionate about teaching as he is about competing, which makes him the perfect person to bring the Throwdown to life and give competitors a genuine masterclass while they’re at it.
Earth Coffee: Their Greenest Brew Yet
The coffee for the night is Paddy & Scott’s Earth Coffee, which is made with the planet in mind.
Climate change is putting pressure on the arabica beans we all love, with rising temperatures threatening the regions where they grow best. Paddy & Scott’s has been working on a solution, and Earth Coffee is it.
The coffee is grown by multigenerational farmers in Espírito Santo, Brazil, who use eco-friendly farming techniques supported by the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo. These methods help the surrounding ecosystem thrive while producing a cup full of flavour.
What makes Earth Coffee stand out is resilience. It features robusta, a hardy plant that copes better with warmer temperatures and needs less water than its more delicate arabica cousin. Blended with high-quality arabica, expertly nurtured robusta makes a cup that’s both sustainable and delicious.
Watch, Don’t Miss Out
Tickets to watch are completely free although space is strictly limited, so early interest is essential. Entry to the competition itself is by invitation only, reserved for the sixteen baristas going head-to-head on the night.
Guests can also get hands-on as sponsor, Wild Oats, will be hosting an oat milk making workshop where you can make your own oat milk on site. Wild Oats is also supplying the cash prizes for the night.
The Throwdown is sponsored by Wild Oats, Dalla Corte, Jaguar Espresso, Eureka, Dualit and Barry Callebaut.
