Zero Acre Farms today announced that Erewhon Market, the Certified B Corporation and Certified Organic Retailer, is switching to Organic Fera fruit oil® for frying at its cafes. This change gives menu favorites like buffalo cauliflower, Korean fried broccoli, and crispy chicken tenders an even better crisp. The shift takes effect immediately across all 15 locations, and Erewhon will continue to use olive oil and avocado oil for other cooking applications and select dressings.
The move makes Erewhon the largest grocer to use Organic Fera fruit oil to date, reinforcing its commitment to Regenerative Organic Certified® ingredients and its continued leadership in the broader shift toward seed oil-free ingredients. The clean-fried® method reflects additional benefits of the oil selection: Organic Fera fruit oil's composition of healthy fats and antioxidants helps minimize oxidation across frying cycles, a key benefit to food quality in professional kitchens.
Organic Fera fruit oil has been adopted by more than 800 foodservice locations nationwide since its April launch and was recognized as one of Fast Company's 2026 World Changing Ideas.
"Together, Erewhon and Zero Acre Farms are showing how seed oil-free can stand for more: supporting regenerative organic agriculture, healthier cooking, and food that tastes as good as it makes you feel," said Zero Acre Farms founder and chairman Jeff Nobbs.
"This switch represents an important step in our larger mission to do better for people and the planet. As we continue to raise industry standards, implementing Organic Fera fruit oil reflects our commitment to regenerative agriculture, exceptional quality, and thoughtfully considered ingredients," said Erewhon CEO Tony Antoci.
Erewhon's shift comes amid growing interest in oil supply chains. Organic Fera fruit oil is independently tested and Seed Oil-Free Certified®. It is also Regenerative Organic Certified® at the Gold tier, a distinction that aligns with Erewhon's broader ROC® product assortment.
Erewhon's culinary team has been testing Organic Fera fruit oil across its prepared foods menu, noting strong frying performance with a crispier, less greasy result.
Fera is pressed from the fruit of a South American palm tree (oleifera x guineensis), a relative of other palm trees that produce coconuts, dates, and açaí berries. Similar to avocado and olive oils, Organic Fera fruit oil contains mostly monounsaturated fat and less saturated fat than coconut oil and typical palm oil. Its clean taste and high smoke point make it well suited to high-heat cooking and professional kitchens.
Fera is grown on perennial trees that produce fruit for nearly 25 years. The fruit is sourced from regenerative farms and produced without clearing forests for cultivation.
Recent production updates to Organic Fera fruit oil include a gentler expeller-pressing at a lower temperature, designed to preserve more of the oil's naturally occurring antioxidants.
