Four new high-protein chicken entrées, including the brand's first Mediterranean recipes, launch at Kroger in October.
STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 13, 2026 — Saffron Road®, a Certified B Corporation and pioneer in globally inspired, clean-label meals, is expanding the frozen aisle with four new chicken entrées: Chicken Shawarma, Honey Harissa Chicken, Tomato Feta Chicken Penne, and Chicken Birria. The launch marks Saffron Road's first venture into Mediterranean cuisine, alongside a bold new take on one of the most talked-about Mexican flavor trends in food. The entrées begin rolling out at Kroger in October 2026, with additional retail partners to follow.
The four new entrées arrive at a defining moment for American appetites. Mediterranean flavors have moved well past trend status: the Mediterranean diet was named the best overall diet by U.S. News & World Report eight years running, and the category boasts some of the nation's fastest-growing restaurant concepts over the past year. Meanwhile, flavors like harissa and shawarma are gaining popularity, especially among Gen Z and Millennial diners. That momentum, paired with Saffron Road's long-standing commitment to whole ingredients and unapologetically bold flavors, made the region a natural next step for the brand. Chicken Shawarma, Honey Harissa Chicken, and Tomato Feta Chicken Penne officially mark Saffron Road's Mediterranean debut, bringing time-honored flavor traditions to the frozen aisle with the whole ingredients Saffron Road is known for.
Rounding out the new additions to their global lineup of frozen entrées, Chicken Birria taps into one of the most viral food trends of the past several years. Birria's appearance on restaurant menus has climbed 350% over four years, according to Datassential, with 118% more growth predicted over the next four, moving the dish well beyond its taco roots into mainstream formats across the food industry. Saffron Road's version brings its signature clean-ingredient story to a trend that shows no signs of slowing.
Each entrée is an excellent source of protein, with at least 20 grams per serving, and a good source of fiber, with at least 4 grams. All four are Seed Oil Free Certified, made with chickens raised with no antibiotics ever, and contain no artificial ingredients, delivering the well-rounded nutrition shoppers are looking for and have come to expect from the better-for-you brand.
The New Entrées:
Chicken Shawarma — Tender chicken marinated in warm shawarma spices and seared golden, finished with a creamy, garlicky yogurt sauce. Served over fragrant basmati rice with chickpeas, sweet red peppers and spinach, it's bright, bold, and built for repeat cravings.
Honey Harissa Chicken — Juicy chicken glazed in a honey-kissed red pepper harissa sauce that starts sweet and builds to a warm, lingering heat, served over nutty pearl couscous with tangy feta, spinach and roasted butternut squash.
Tomato Feta Chicken Penne — Grilled chicken and tender penne tossed in a silky, light cream sauce with sweet cherry tomatoes, wilted spinach and crumbles of tangy feta. A sun-soaked, comforting spin on pasta night.
Chicken Birria — Shredded chicken slow-simmered in a smoky, deeply spiced birria sauce and topped with melty Oaxaca cheese, alongside black bean street corn rice studded with charred sweet corn.
"People are falling in love with Mediterranean and Mexican flavors at restaurants, and they want that same excitement in a convenient format at work or home. These four entrées bring it: big, bold flavor, at least 20 grams of protein each, and the clean ingredients Saffron Road is known for. We're grateful to the entire Kroger team for embracing these items as our launch partner, and we can't wait for their shoppers to try them," said Paul Turbeville, CEO of Saffron Road.
