Category enhancement and reinvention often comes into view through product innovations scheduled to be seen at Expo West. Here’s a look at the latest products that companies plan to use to redefine the breakfast category.

Mason Dixie

Mason Dixie

Frozen biscuit brand Mason Dixie will launch a new line of Scones and Sweet Rolls this spring, its first extension beyond biscuits, in addition to a rebrand of its entire line. The scones will launch with Cranberry & Orange, Blueberry & Lemon, Chocolate Chip and Coffee Cake flavors, while the rolls will debut with Orange, Cinnamon, Sticky Bun and Strawberry Cheesecake varieties.

Kodiak Cakes

Kodiak Cakes

Kodiak Cakes will add to its lineup of protein-enhanced offerings with plant-based and low-carb versions of its Flapjack & Waffle Mix, which will retail for $5.99 and $6.99, respectively, and will hit retail this spring. The brand is also launching new oatmeals: Peaches & Cream instant oatmeal packets ($5.50 for six packets) and Blueberries & Cream and Classic Power oatmeal cups, each for $2.25, along with new snack items as well.

Collagen brand Vital Proteins is further extending its lineup with new instant coffee offerings in six varieties -- three with Collagen Creamer (Coconut, Mocha, and Vanilla), one Plain and two with Collagen Peptides (Unflavored and Cardamom). The brand previously launched a line of coffee beans in 2019. Other launches will include new mini collagen bars, collagen-enhanced energy shots, and a sleep-focused Blueberry Moon Milk Collagen Latte.

Zego Foods

Organic, allergen-friendly cereal brand Zego Foods will launch new Double Protein Oats along with a new kids-focused offering, Peace.Love.Crispies Cereal, in the fall. Made with heirloom rice from Lotus Foods, the cereal features a new ‘purity panel’ signifying that the products are free from heavy metals, gluten, the top eight allergens and chemicals.

Dannon Light & Fit

Dannon Light & Fit

Global dairy company Danone will launch Dannon Light & Fit Collagen + Antioxidants, which the company says is the first packaged yogurt with collagen. While collagen is said to help nails, hair and skin, the ingredient also adds protein -- each 5.3oz cup has 15g of protein -- making it one of the highest protein offerings in the Light & Fit portfolio.

Danone will also launch Dannon Oikos Nut Butter, a line of whole milk Greek yogurt with almond butter. Launching in five flavors -- Almond Butter & Sweetened Plain, Almond Butter & Vanilla, Almond Butter & Maple Cinnamon, Almond Butter & Berries, and Almond Butter & Coconut -- each 5.3oz cup has 13g of protein.

Plant-based platform Forager Project launched six new products including high protein yogurts, dairy-free butter, oatmilk, grain-free cereal and grain-free chips, as well as a Blackberry flavor of its drinkable cashewmilk yogurt. The products are available at Whole Foods Market stores nationwide.

Lightlife and Field Roast

Lightlife and Field Roast

Plant-based brands Lightlife and Field Roast launched new breakfast items: Lightlife raw plant-based patties and links, both made with pea and rice protein, and Field Roast fully-cooked sausage patties, which are designed to fit breakfast sandwiches. Both brands are owned by Greenleaf Foods, SPC, a subsidiary of meat producer Maple Leaf Foods.

Purely Elizabeth

To compliment its line of granolas, oatmeal cups and bars, Purely Elizabeth is bringing three new pancake mixes to the breakfast table: Ancient Grain, Grain-Free and Grain-Free Protein with Collagen. The brand previously launched a new skincare line of body scrubs at The Winter Fancy Food Show.

Good Earth Tea

Good Earth Tea

California-based tea company Good Earth Tea is launching a new line, Sensorial Blends, focused on refreshment and quenching thirst via aromatic flavor offerings. The new line is Rainforest Alliance certified and utilizes eco-friendly packaging, including biodegradable teabags.

One Degree

One Degree

Organic food brand One Degree will launch eight new products: instant oatmeal Pouches in Quinoa Hemp, Super Seeds, Vanilla Pecan and Apple Cinnamon; grain-free granolas in Maple Almond and Ginger Cacao; and two cereals, Sprouted Cacao Flakes and Sprouted Vanilla Puffs.

Ayo Yogurt

A recent entrant to the dairy case, Ayo launched its Almondmilk Yogurt in Vanilla, Strawberry, Blueberry, and Peach flavors. The yogurts, which are dairy and soy-free, each contain the equivalent of 20 organic almonds and have 150 calories and 4g of protein. The brand will launch nationally soon, according to its website.

Runamok Maple

Runamok Maple

Maple syrup brand Runamok is launching a new cocoa-bean infused syrup. The product will retail for $16.95 per 250 mL bottle and joins the brand’s 14 other maple syrups sold online and in retailers nationwide.
