Review: Gymkhana’s Simmer Sauces Has Us Seeing (Five) Stars
Gymkhana Simmer Sauces & Marinades

Gymkhana, the two Michelin star restaurant in London, brings its name to a line of chef-crafted Indian simmer sauces and marinades. Priced at roughly $8 to a little over $10 per jar, these products deliver exceptional flavor, making restaurant-quality cooking remarkably accessible. They might just be the best packaged Indian sauces we’ve sampled, offering a level of intensity and flavor complexity that makes the restaurant connection feel fully earned.
Things that stand out:
- The flavor goes above and beyond. Across our preparations, these sauces transformed straightforward ingredients such as chicken, tofu, and cauliflower into dishes that could easily pass for restaurant fare. They taste like products developed with real attention to the finished meal.
- The marinades are particular standouts. Tandoori BBQ brought bold, spicy flavor to chicken and roasted cauliflower, while Green Tikka’s herbaceous combination of cilantro and mint was exceptional on tofu. Roasted Garlic & Chili also put baby potatoes to good use, demonstrating how easily the line extends beyond the main protein.
- The simmer sauces make equally compelling vegetarian dishes. Butter Masala paired beautifully with chickpeas, while Goan Coconut Curry brought together tofu, red pepper, onion, and spinach. Alongside rice and naan, these preparations created a generous spread with considerable variety.
- The packaging feels polished, established, and super premium. Deep green labels, gold lettering, and matching gold lids give the glass jars an understated premium look that fits the restaurant’s positioning. Clear sauce names and heat descriptions also provide useful guidance.
Things to consider:
- Distinguishing varieties at a glance takes some attention. The consistent label design creates a cohesive family, but the small color variations in the central artwork offer limited differentiation, particularly among sauces with similar orange and red hues.
- The price is premium, although the quality makes it evident why that is. The marinades require only a few tablespoons per preparation, and a couple of jars can anchor several dishes. Simple meals can come together quickly, while a full spread with multiple roasted components requires more time and coordination.
