Bone Broth A Hot Ingredient at Newtopia Now

No bones about it – bone broth has been gaining steam for about a decade now, championed as a natural source of collagen, amino acids and minerals. Although bone broth has evolved into a well-established category on its own, several exhibiting brands at Newtopia Now this week in Denver are moving beyond the bottle – or jar or carton – to bring bone broth’s benefits to snacks and other applications.

Singing Pastures (Booth #1453) debuted what it claims is the first-ever meat stick infused with grass-fed beef bone broth. Available in Original Beef, Original Uncured Bacon & Pork, and Juicy Pineapple Pork, the sticks are crafted with premium grass-fed beef or pasture raised-pork, fermented and cooked slowly over hickory wood. The brand aims to appeal to female consumers by focusing on “women’s wellness needs,” according to CEO Holly Arbuckle.

“It’s time to move beyond the idea that meat is macho. We are aligned with Newtopia Now’s ethos of conscious, breakthrough products and are delighted to debut the next generation of meat sticks designed for women,” Arbuckle said in a statement.

New York-based startup HOL Health Club (Booth #1149) launched a line of protein bars featuring simple ingredients such as nuts, dates, oats, honey, cacao, sea salt and chicken bone broth. Flavors include Salted Chocolate, Cinnamon Peanut Butter and Peanut Butter Cacao. A bar has 20 grams of protein and 280 calories.

The brand was founded by former investment bankers Nolan Spencer and Mackenzie Muth, who said they are pioneering the use of chicken bone broth in the protein bar category.

Chad & Barney’s Sturdy Sauce (Booth #1403) incorporates hydrolyzed bovine bone broth in its protein-packed pasta sauces, alongside whey protein and bovine collagen. Available in Marinara, Garlic & Herb and Sweet Basil, the sauces offer 20 grams of protein per serving – or a whopping 80 grams per jar.

The product line, which debuted at Newtopia Now last year, is quickly gaining traction in retail and is set to land on thousands of shelves by year-end, co-founder Chad Robinson told Nosh.

Supplement brand Ancient Nutrition (Booth #658) offers a range of Bone Broth Protein powders in Pure, Chocolate, Salted Caramel and Pumpkin Spice flavors. The products feature a blend of chicken bone broth protein concentrate and grass-fed beef bone broth protein concentrate.

Another exhibitor, åKrrush (Booth #1919), produces a line of Norwegian bone broth packaged in convenient single-serve stick packs and containing all nine essential amino acids plus electrolytes. The company, which sources from family farms across Norway, claims its enzymatic hydrolysis process improves absorption and bioavailability of the nutrients.
