April Fools’ Gallery: Tic Tac, Tofurky and Tikka Masala Sunscreen

We’ve entered a new era of consumer goods, wherein brands have introduced such over-the-top innovations and collaborations in recent years that it has become nearly impossible to discern legit launches from April Fool’s prank products. Compiling this gallery of fakery required extra due diligence on the part of our editorial team; a few real offerings (Velveeta Gold hair dye, anyone?) almost slipped through the cracks. Rest assured, these April 1 fabrications are just that… for now, anyway.

Tic Tac

Tic Tac has teamed up with fast-food chain Del Taco on a range of spicy mints inspired by Del Taco Hot Sauce flavors, including Mild, Del Scorcho and Del Inferno.

Quest

Quest is pumping up its high-protein offerings with the launch of meat and vegetable seasonings. Available in All Purpose, Lemon Pepper and Garlic Herb, the seasonings add 21 grams of protein, 2 net carbs and less than 1 gram of sugar per serving.

Kevin’s Natural Foods

Kevin’s Natural Foods is expanding beyond heat-and-eat entrees with the launch of a personal care collection inspired by its popular flavors. Products include Korean BBQ deodorant, Cilantro Lime toothpaste, Lemongrass Basil shampoo and Tikka Masala sunscreen.

Peace Coffee

New from Peace Coffee is the first-of-its-kind microwave coffee bean roasting system, featuring organic, fair-trade coffee. To develop the patent-pending Peace Wave bag, the team at Peace Coffee worked with microwave manufacturers to add a “bean roast” setting.

Soom Foods

Soom is expanding its line of tahini-based bites with a savory addition. Soom Hummus Bites are poppable snacks featuring chickpeas, tahini, garlic and lemon.

Nightingale Ice Cream

Cult-favorite ice cream brand Nightingale has joined forces with Pizza Hut to create an ice cream sandwich made with garlic bread parmesan cookies, olive oil-infused vanilla ice cream and swirls of candied cheddar cheese chunks and pepperoni pieces.

Tofurky

Longtime plant-based protein innovator Tofurky is entering the sprayable set with the debut of 100% plant-based Tofurky Gravy Spray. The spritzable iteration of the festive side dish is designed for convenient on-the-go use and carries notes of thyme and black pepper. In the words of Tofurky, “this multitasking fragrance is a must-add for your spring wardrobe.”

Icelandic Provisions

In honor of the most anticipated country album, possibly of all time, skyr maker Icelandic Provisions claims to be putting out a product that will have fans even “grabbing their horses and strapping on their boots.” A nod to Beyonce’s “Cowboy Carter,” Icelandic Provisions Cowboy Skyr is “launching” in one flavor, dubbed Iceland Hold Em,’ with 17 grams of protein and 3 grams of sugar.

Olipop

Functional beverage brand Olipop is introducing a Pringles Sour Cream and Onion prebiotic soda, featuring the flavors of potatoes and tangy sour cream, with 4 grams of sugar and 9 grams of fiber per serving.
