Expo West 2023 Gallery: Brands Bring Protein, Functional Ingredients To The Breakfast Table

Natural Products Expo West 2023 brought a number of line extensions for better-for-you brands expanding further into the breakfast aisle. From smoothie mixes to new cereals and oatmeals featuring adaptogenic ingredients to on-the-go morning meals, the show floor was packed with both new and old entrants in the category. Here’s a look at some of the newly released products featured at Expo West 2023.

Kuli Kuli

Kuli Kuli expanded its line of superfood powders with three new functional morning Superfood Blends. The breakfast smoothie powders are available in 6 oz. pouches in three flavors: Green Power, Gut Bliss and Mood Magic. The latter is the first product to not utilize Kuli Kuli’s signature ingredient of moringa, instead containing sustainable African superfoods baobab, cacao and hibiscus.

Seven Sundays

Gluten-free breakfast brand Seven Sundays, unveiled its line of protein-enhanced cereal using upcycled oats and no refined sugar. The new line comes in 8 oz. bags in a variety of flavors including Super Fruity, Maple Cinnamon, Simply Honey, Golden Apple and Chocolate Sea Salt. The Minneapolis, Minnesota-based brand launched in 2011 offering a keto-friendly muesli company and has expanded its morning meal offerings to sunflower cereals, granola and protein-rich oat mixes.

Supplant

The Supplant Company has extended its portfolio from artisanal chocolate bars and shortbreads with the launch of a new line of Oat Bars. The bars – Blueberry, Cranberry and Orange, and Apple and Cinnamon – offer 30% less sugar than regular oat bars and each 1.8 oz. bar boasts 8g of gut-healthy fiber. The Thomas Keller-backed company uses the cobs, husks, hulls, stems and stalks of agricultural waste and upcycles it into a low glycemic sugar product using its patented technology.

Cocojune

Cocojune released two new flavors of the brand’s cultured coconut yogurts: Mixed Berry and Passion Fruit. The single-serve, dairy-free yogurts come in plastic neutral 4-ounce containers and complement Cocojune’s four existing flavors: Pure Coconut, Lemon elderflower, Strawberry Rhubarb and Vanilla Chamomile. Cocojune also showed off its new kids pouches (Banana Strawberry, Mango Peach and Mixed Berry) as well as its line of Overnight Oats (Banana Cinnamon, Dark Chocolate, Mixed Berry and Vanilla Bean).

Three Little Pigs

Charcuterie maker Three Little Pigs (Trois Petits Cochons) sampled the brand’s two new sous vide Egg Bites. The 4-ounce, two-packs of grab-and-go egg cups come in Canadian Bacon and Chive using Jasper Hill Farm Whitney cheese and free-range eggs. The microwaveable breakfast items extend Three Little Pigs’ line of Egg Bites that already feature Spinach and Feta as well as Ham, Cheddar And Chili Pepper varieties.

Earnest Eats

San Diego, California-based Earnest Eats showed off its new versions of its regenerative oatmeal featuring adaptogenic mushrooms like lion’s mane and turkey tail. The new oatmeals come in 10 oz. bags in three flavors: Almond + Hemp, Almond + Cinnamon, and Coconut + Ginger. Earnest Eats also makes almond butter bars, superfood-enriched oatmeal cups and snacking avocado bags.

Good Culture

Good Culture has expanded its portfolio of dairy products with a three-SKU line of cultured cream cheeses in Plain, Strawberry and Chive flavors. The company, known for its line of cultured cottage cheese, has been making forays into other corners of the dairy case with sour cream and a recently announced licensing partnership with the Dairy Farmers of America to make a probiotic milk. Like the brand’s other products, the new spreads have live probiotics in each 7 oz. container and are made from pasture-raised animals.

Yishi

Chicago-based Yishi released two new flavors of Chinese-inspired oatmeals: Chocolate Chili and Mango Cream. Similar to the breakfast brands Matcha, Bubble Tea, Taro and Toasted Black Sesame varieties, the new offerings are high in protein and fiber while also being USDA Organic, Non-GMO Project Certified, gluten-free and plant-based. The brand has also announced it is now available nationwide in Whole Foods.

Catalina Crunch

Keto-friendly snack brand Catalina Crunch was sampling its gluten-free, plant-based Pairings Blueberry Muffin Cereal at Expo West last week. The new cereal flavor comes in 8 oz. bags and features 10g of protein, 7g of fiber and only 1g of sugar. The product rounds out the brand’s portfolio of high-protein, low-sugar cereals, snack Crunch Mixes and sandwich cookies.

My Mochi

Launching in Walmart this month, My/Mochi released a Cereal + Milk Mochi Ice Cream. In addition to the graham cereal-flavored ice cream the brand also sampled its new line of smoothie wrapped mochis. Available nationwide, the frozen bites come in Strawberry Banana and Mixed Berry flavors.
