JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Manufacturing Planning & Purchasing Manager is a critical leadership role within our operations team. This position owns the end-to-end production planning process and raw material purchasing strategy to ensure on-time delivery, margin protection, and optimal plant efficiency. Reporting to the Plant Manager and working closely with the COO, this role serves as the operational bridge between Sales, Production, Warehouse, and Finance. This is a hands-on role in a fast-moving, growth-oriented food manufacturing environment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop and maintain the master production schedule across multiple product lines and customers (branded and co-man)
· Translate sales forecasts and confirmed orders into executable manufacturing plans
· Perform capacity planning and bottleneck analysis to optimize line utilization
· Monitor schedule adherence and proactively adjust to meet OTIF targets
· Generate and release manufacturing and picking work orders through Acctivate ERP
· Collaborate daily with Plant Manager and Production Leads to resolve schedule constraints
· Quote lead times and provide production status updates to Sales
· Own purchasing strategy for ingredients, packaging, and production materials
· Issue purchase orders and maintain appropriate safety stock levels
· Monitor inventory positions to prevent shortages or excess working capital
· Work with suppliers to manage lead times, pricing, and service levels
· Negotiate cost improvements and identify alternative sourcing opportunities
· Coordinate inbound material flow to align with production schedules
· Manage material risk related to shelf life, MOQ requirements, and forecast variability
· Track and analyze material usage variances and waste drivers
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Supply Chain Management, Business Management or equivalent education preferred
- Scheduling/supply chain experience in an ERP environment
- Strong Excel knowledge/skills.
- APICS CPIM certification preferred
- Must have strong analytical, trouble-shooting and communication (written and verbal) skills
- Must be self-directed, team-oriented and able to evaluate and effectively handle multiple priorities
- Demonstrate a strong customer service orientation in order to best serve multiple internal and external customer relationships
