Rival Bros. Coffee Announces New SVP of Coffee

PHILADELPHIA, Penn.— Coffee roaster and retailer Rival Bros. Coffee recently named Chris Miller as their new Senior Vice President of Coffee, bringing with him over 20 years of experience in Philly’s coffee industry and restaurant scene.

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Chris spent time in the kitchens of now-shuttered Philly establishments like Django and Brasserie Perrier, where he first met and befriended Rival Bros. co-founders Damien Pileggi and Jonathan Adams. Chris joins the Rival Bros. team after many years spent working within the coffee community nationwide, including a stint at La Colombe. In 2019, Chris received his Q Grader certification, bringing another layer of expertise to his tenure in the industry.

As SVP of Coffee at Rival Bros., Chris will be overseeing the entire coffee team, leading stronger internal education and a deeper sense of connection to the coffee community at large. He will also bring a refreshed approach to the brand’s sourcing, looking at previously untapped high-quality regions for new blends and single-origin offerings.

“Since Jonathan and I founded Rival Bros. in 2011, we’ve evolved from a single coffee truck into two brick-and-mortar locations (with a third on the way), a wholesale business, an online retailer with nationwide direct-to-consumer shipping and ready-to-drink offerings, and most recently, a cocktail bar in the form of Enswell in Rittenhouse Square,” says Damien Pileggi, co-founder of Rival Bros. Coffee. “As a former colleague of Chris’, I know that his unmatched expertise and relationships in the world of coffee are essential to our future. We are thrilled to have him on our team,” Pileggi continues.

“I look forward to broadening Rival Bros.’ physical and virtual footprint while ensuring a greater, company-wide understanding of coffee’s production processes and cultural value,” says Chris Miller, SVP of Coffee at Rival Bros. “As an essential piece of so many peoples’ day, good coffee shouldn’t be complicated, and I’m excited to grow our cafés and nationwide business with new serves that are accessible to all,” Miller continues.
