Expo East 2022 Gallery: Better-For-You Sweet Treats

During Natural Products Expo East 2022, the Philadelphia Convention Center was filled with aisles upon aisles of better-for-you treats aimed to cure any sweet tooth. Check out the gallery for everything from autumn-inspired nut butters and cocoa truffle bars to low-sugar chew candies and poppable ice cream bites.

Petit Pot

Organic refrigerated dessert maker Petit Pot unveiled its revamped packaging at the show. The new look features realistic product images alongside illustrations of key ingredients used to make the dessert. All flavors also now feature an “organic & creamy” callout on the front-of-pack.

Abby’s Better, Inc.

North Carolina-based nut butter brand Abby’s Better introduced its newest variety at the show: Birthday Cake Cashew Butter. Like the rest of the brand’s product lineup, the new offering is vegan, peanut-free, gluten-free and paleo. Birthday Cake Cashew Butter will be available for purchase later this month.

Tony’s x Ben & Jerry’s

To drive awareness about child labor in the global coca supply chain, Tony’s Chocoloney and Ben & Jerry’s teamed up to launch several co-branded products. At the show, Tony’s exhibited its co-branded chocolate bars, Dark Milk Chocolate with Brownie and White Chocolate Strawberry. The bars will roll out to retailers in early 2023. Additionally, Ben & Jerry’s is slated to launch its co-branded Chocolate Love A-Fair flavor later this year.

High Key

High Key has expanded its portfolio of better-for-you snacks with the addition of Sandwich Cookies. The new zero-sugar treat contains 7 grams of fiber and just 60 calories per serving.

RIND Snacks

RIND is now offering its new Dark Cocoa Sea Salt Coconut Crisps in a single-serve 1.4 oz. bag. The chocolatey snack is made with just four ingredients: dried coconut, coconut sugar, dark cocoa powder and salt. The single-serve bags are available online for $44.99 per 12-pack and $79.99 per 24-pack.

Nuttzo

Just in time for the fall and winter holidays, Nuttzo showcased two new limited-edition nut and seed butter spreads: Ginger Bread and Pumpkin Spice. The former features coconut sugar and spices like cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg to “transport you to Grandma’s house during the holidays,” the brand claims. The latter combines the brand’s Power Fuel Crunchy flavor with nutmeg, ginger and clove. Both flavors are available online for $15.50 per 16 oz. jar.

Oomph!

Oomph!, a new better-for-you candy brand, debuted at the show with two product formats: chews and gummies. The former is available in Passionfruit, Lemon, Green Apple and Chocolate flavors and contains just one gram of sugar per 6-piece serving. The latter – available in Pineapple, Cherry and Watermelon – contains zero grams of sugar per 17-piece serving.

Brewer’s Foods

Upcycled cracker and chip brand Brewer’s Foods expanded into a new category with the release of its Chocolate Chip Sea Salt Cookies. Like the rest of the brand’s products, the cookies are made with upcycled, sprouted grains to help combat food waste.

Honey Mama’s

Oregon-based cocoa truffle bar maker Honey Mama’s is celebrating autumn with its new Pumpkin Spice variety. The new offering will be available for a limited time and features dark cocoa, raw honey, sprouted pumpkin seed, cinnamon and clove.

Sunscoop

Plant-based ice cream maker Sunscoop expanded into frozen novelties with a new bite-sized format to its frozen treat lineup: Sundrops. Available in two flavors – Cookie Whoa! and Cookies ‘n Coconut Cream – the dairy-free dessert contains just 100 calories per serving.

Forager Project

Forager Project, an organic plant-based creamery, showcased its new Organic Probiotic Cashewmilk Yogurt. The product, marketed around its inclusion of a bee-free honey alternative ingredient, will soon be available in 24 oz. containers.
