Gallery: March Brings Plant-Based Innovation, New Breakfast Offerings
March saw plenty of new dairy-free innovations hit retailers, including new zero sugar NadaMoo! ice cream varieties, dairy-free shreds from Daiya and slices from Bel Brands’ first exclusively plant-based brand, Nurishh. Nurishh
Cheese maker Bel Brands USA expanded into plant-based dairy with new brand Nurishh, offering lactose-free cheddar, mozzarella and provolone style slices and cheddar, mozzarella and cheddar & mozzarella style shreds. Nurishh products hit shelves in April at select retailers and via Amazon Fresh.
Omsom
Asian sauce brand Omsom launched a limited edition sauce sampler in collaboration with Disney’s “Raya and the Last Dragon,” to celebrate Disney’s first Southeast Asian princess. Featuring three sauce varieties -- Vietnamese Lemongrass BBQ, Thai Larb and Filipino Sisig -- the sampler is sold on the brand’s website for $31 for a pack of six starters.
Ben & Jerry's
WhistlePig Whiskey teamed up with Ben & Jerry’s on Whiskey Biz, a white chocolate ganache-topped brown butter ice cream featuring blonde brownies and whiskey-infused caramel swirls. The new flavor is now available at retailers nationwide for $4.99 to $5.49 per pint.
BTR Bar
BTR Bar added a new flavor to its line of superfood-infused and adaptogenic protein bars, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip BLISS. Made with Reishi mushroom, cacao and pumpkin seed protein, the bar contains 10 grams of plant-based protein and no added sugar. Currently the new launch is sold on the brand’s website in 4-packs ($10.99) and 12-packs ($32.50).
Comvita
Manuka honey maker Comvita released a limited edition Special Reserve UMF 25+ Manuka Honey, containing a minimum MGO (the antibacterial compound in Manuka Honey) of 1200+. According to the brand, the honey can be taken for a daily wellness dose or used topically for anti-inflammatory benefits. Sold in limited quantities on the brand’s website, the special release retails for $425.
Cafe Spice
Inspired by Indian street food, ready-to-eat global cuisine brand Cafe Spice launched Naan Toasties, offered in Chutney Chicken, Cauli Tikka and Chicken Tikka. Naan Toasties can be found at retailers in the deli and prepared foods section of all Whole Foods Markets North Atlantic locations, Fresh Thyme and Gelson's Markets.
The Pinole Project
Mexican-America brand The Pinole Project is putting a twist on classic oatmeal with its new Pinole Chia Oatmeal, formulated with Olotillo corn from Oaxaca, Mexico. Offered in Original, Peanut Butter & Cacao and Banana Cinnamon flavors, it is available on the brand’s website and Amazon for $26.60 for a variety 15-pack.
Birch Benders
Keto and paleo pancake and waffle mix maker Birch Benders rolled out a line of keto and organic cake and brownie mixes, which are also gluten-free and contain less than five grams of net carbs per serving. The line, which includes eight baking mix and frosting offerings, is sold at Target, Kroger and Walmart starting in April for $4.99 (organic mixes) and $7.99 (keto mixes and frostings).
Dolcezza
Washington, D.C.-based gelato maker Dolcezza debuted two new flavors, Swiss Chocolate and Tramontana, which will be rolling out in Whole Foods nationwide, The Fresh Market, Earth Fare and Natural Grocers. Swiss Chocolate features milk chocolate gelato with folds of dulce de leche and dark chocolate Stracciatella, while Tramonta is made with sweet cream gelato with ribbons of dulce de leche and dark chocolate pearls.
Ocean Spray
Agricultural cooperative Ocean Spray grew its snack offerings with the launch of dried fruit line Ocean Spray Fruit Medley. Combining Craisins Dried Cranberries with other dried fruits, the Fruit Medley line is sold in three varieties -- Immunity Blend (cranberries, mangos, pineapple and banana chips), Fiber Blend (cranberries, apples and nectarines) and Probiotic Blend (cranberries, blueberries, cherries and raisins) with an MSRP of $3.99 per pouch.
Daiya
Plant-based cheese brand Daiya added to its Cutting Board Collection Shred line with Mexican 4 Cheeze Style Blend, sold at Sprouts and retailers across the U.S. and Canada. The chickpea-based cheese alternative features cheddar, monterey jack, asadero and queso quesadilla style shreds.
Mason Dixie
Better-for-you frozen baked goods brand Mason Dixie Foods announced the debut of its Breakfast Sandwich Collection, which will hit stores including Whole Foods in May. The heat-and-eat sandwiches feature eggs, nitrate-free pork sausage and Mason Dixie biscuits, offered in four varieties: Buttermilk and Cheddar Breakfast Sandwiches with sausage and egg, and Buttermilk and Cheddar Sausage Biscuits.
MadeGood
Allergy-friendly snack brand MadeGood expanded its snack bar offerings with the debut of Chocolate Drizzled Granola Bars. Available in Cookie Crumble, Birthday Cake and Vanilla, the gluten-free and organic bars are sold online and in store at Target for $4.99 per 5-pack box.
NadaMoo!
NadaMoo! grew its coconut milk-based ice cream offerings with the launch of four no sugar added flavors: Vanilla, Strawberry, Chocolate and Mint Chip. Sweetened with organic allulose, organic erythritol and stevia extract, the flavors are sold at retailers nationwide for $5.99 per pint.
The Jordre Well
Hemp and CBD beverage company The Jordre Well unveiled the packaging designs for the new CBD-infused coffee products from dark roast Latin espresso brand Cafe Caribe and Massachusetts’ based coffee roaster Harmony Bay.
Buff Bake
Keto snack brand Buff Bake added Chocolate Chip Keto Cookie Bites its product lineup. The cookies contain one gram of net carbs and one gram of sugar per serving, sold on the brand’s website for $13.99 per 3-pack or $26.99 per 6-pack of 2.25 oz. bags.
Serenity Kids
Baby food maker Serenity Kids launched rice-free and grain-free puffs made from cassava root and organic vegetables, grass fed beef bone broth and olive oil, with no added sugar. The Grain Free Puffs come in three flavors -- Carrot & Beet, Broccoli & Spinach and Tomato & Mushroom -- and are sold on the brand’s website as well as in Whole Foods nationwide for $4.99 to $5.49 each.
Your Super
Your Super expanded its plant-based bar line with The Energy Bomb Bar. The bar is made with dates, cashews, sesame seeds and raisins, as well as its Energy Bomb superfood mix containing acai, guarana, maca, lucuma and banana powder. With 39 mg of caffeine, the bar is sold on the brand’s website for $28.90 per 10-pack box.
Path of Life
Frozen food brand Path of Life rolled out a new line of organic steel cut instant oatmeal, with each oatmeal cup containing under 200 calories and no added sugar. Available in Berry and Apple Cinnamon flavors, the new line is sold at Sprouts Farmers Markets nationwide for $5.99.
