Sausalito, Calif. — Patagonia Provisions has launched a new lightly smoked venison link made from invasive Hawaiian Axis deer, which is considered one of the most delicious venison species in the world. With a flavorful, tender, and mild flavor, these venison links offer 16g of lean protein per serving and do not contain any antibiotics or hormones.
In Hawaii, an explosive population of invasive Axis deer are destroying native foliage, endangering a fragile and unique ecosystem. Patagonia Provisions sourcing partner, Maui Nui Venison, humanely harvests the deer to help balance the population, conserve native species and produce a bountiful supply of tasty, lean, wild meat. None of the venison goes to waste: it feeds local communities in Hawai’i and is the main ingredient for these venison links.

Sourced from the island of Maui, Patagonia Provisions partners with Maui Nui, who works to harvest the invasive wild deer according to rigorous USDA standards. The animals are never penned or trucked to slaughterhouses, which is the most common and stressful fate for commercially raised meat animals. The deer that Maui Nui sources are wild and free their entire lives.
