Schiff Foods Acquires Golombeck

TOTOWA, N.J.– In a significant step toward expanding its industry-leading business, Schiff Foods, a full-line purveyor of whole spices, ground spices, and seasonings, recently acquired Morris J. Golombeck, an internationally-recognized importer and exporter of high-quality spices and herbs.

Founded in 1949, Schiff began selling food condiments in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and slowly evolved into grinding spices. The company left Brooklyn for New Jersey in 1998 and eventually expanded into seeds, herbs, allied products, dehydrated vegetables, onion and garlic, and seasoning blends. Known for its relationship with only the best sources, Schiff has emerged as expert in the sourcing of suppliers worldwide. Its state-of-the art facility includes a 300,000 sq. ft. warehouse featuring a 30,000 sq. ft. temperature-controlled area for delicate spices and approximately 15,000 sq. ft. in production space.

The Morris J. Golombeck dynasty began in downtown Manhattan in 1946 and moved to Brooklyn in 1955. By the 1960s,the companyhad developed a special grinding method that was unlike any other in the spice industry. Its high-grade spices were available on the retail market until the 1990s, at which time the company focused on food manufacturing plants and distribution. The Golombeck name is associated with superior productsas well as its unique processing of black pepper, paprika, cinnamon, garlic, and dehydrated onion, among hundreds of other spices.

The combined strength of the two companies will increase Schiff Foods’ capacity, flexibility, and technology. The spokesman added, “The Golombeck team will continue to be an integral part of the Schiff management team, assuring customers that they will continue to enjoy the same personal relationships they have come to expect from an industry leader.”

To streamline production and distribution capabilities, said the Schiff spokesman, “our main warehouse in Totowa, NJ will be expanded and upgraded to further benefit our cherished customers.”
