Song’E Napule Pizzeria and Trattoria Celebrates 10 Years of Neapolitan Authenticity
Song’E Napule Pizzeria and Trattoria celebrate a decade of bringing the heart of Naples to New York City, led by Naples-born chef Ciro Iovine and his wife, Austria. What began as a humble pizzeria in the West Village has grown into a beloved institution, serving authentic Italian pizza across four thriving locations: Two in the West Village, Upper West Side, and Lyndhurst, NJ.
With ingredients imported directly from Italy’s Campania region, Song’E Napule has garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious Gambero Rosso award. This milestone anniversary is a testament to the restaurant’s dedication to Neapolitan excellence and tradition, a legacy that began with Ciro’s childhood dream. Favorite recipes from the Song’ E Napule, such as Paccheri alla Genovese and Spaghetti allo Scarpariello, are so delicious that people yearn to make them at home!
Chef Ciro Iovine, raised in Fuorigrotta, Naples, knew from a young age that pizza was his passion. His culinary journey took him across Europe and South America, ultimately leading him to New York City, where he and Austria Maldonado opened the first Song’E Napule in 2014. The couple’s mission was simple: bring the authentic flavors of Naples to the Big Apple.
Their goal has always been to showcase the true taste of Naples through classic Italian dishes made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Juicy Piennolo tomatoes from Mount Vesuvius, creamy Fiordilatte from Agerola, and savory anchovies from Cetara are just a few of the signature ingredients that make Song’E Napule stand out among New York’s vast pizza offerings.
“When you eat pizza, anything is possible,” says Chef Ciro. “Our dream was to create a place in the U.S. that offered an authentic Neapolitan experience.”
From their famous antipasti to their mouth-watering pizzas, Song’E Napule’s menu reflects the rich traditions of Italian cuisine. Guests can start their meal with Burrata and 24-month-cured Prosciutto di Parma or enjoy Crocche’ Di Patate, handmade potato croquettes filled with smoked buffalo mozzarella. Pasta lovers have a range of choices, from bold dishes like Fettuccine Nere Con Gamberi to classic Spaghetti Vongole.
The restaurant’s pizzas are the heart of its success. Whether it’s the Margherita, blending smoked imported mozzarella, gorgonzola, and parmigiano reggiano, or the Diavola, which features spicy salame from Napoli, every pizza is crafted with precision and passion. For those with more sophisticated palates, the Tartufata pizza, a blend of truffle cream, mozzarella, and prosciutto di Parma, offers an indulgent treat.
Over the past 10 years, Song’E Napule has expanded beyond its original West Village location to include outposts in Rutherford, New Jersey, the Upper West Side, and a second West Village location. The restaurant’s commitment to quality and authenticity has earned it praise from the New York Times and accolades on the global stage.
Chef Ciro has also made a name for himself, with appearances on popular television shows such as *Little Big Italy*. Despite his growing fame, Ciro remains a hands-on presence at each Song’E Napule location, treating staff and guests like family.
In addition to dining at one of their locations, customers can now bring a taste of Song’E Napule into their homes with two signature products: Canned San Marzano Peeled Tomatoes and Song’E Napule Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Both products are available on the Online Grocery platform Supermarket Italy, allowing customers to recreate Song’E Napule’s signature dishes with authentic Neapolitan ingredients.
