Nut and seed butter products producer Once Again announced today it has acquired California-based, organic almond manufacturer Big Tree Organic Farms as it seeks to increase efficiencies and reduce its environmental impact for its West Coast industrial customers.

The upstate New York-based company said the deal will eliminate the need for Once Again to ship almonds cross country, allowing it to process and manufacture its almond-based products right in California’s Central Valley, a key almond growing region.

The acquisition will also see an expansion of Once Again’s product portfolio to now include certified non-GMO and organic diced, sliced and slivered almonds as well as almond flour. In addition to the new items the company said it will also launch a new ingredients arm, which will come online as OnceAgainIngredients.com later this month.

“As we strive to be a one-stop shop for organic and natural, nut and seed products, the acquisition of Big Tree Organic Farms is big news for us,” said Bob Gelser, CEO of Once Again, in a press release. “Being closer to the commodity in California where 80% of the world’s almonds are grown allows us to expand our supply chain and reduce our carbon footprint, all while meeting the growing demand for clean-ingredient almond products.”

The addition of the new SQF certified, dedicated almond facility in Turlock, Calif., Is a major step for Once Again, an employee-owned nut butter collective which has operated since 1976. In recent years Once Again has innovated with a range of products including a 12 oz. almond butter format, graham cracker sandwiches made with nut butter and a new line of gluten-free graham crackers made with a blend of organic sorghum flour, oat flour and cassava flour.
