Summer Fancy Food Gallery: New Sauces and Condiments Feature Hints of Heat
From salsa macha to vegan pesto to stingless bee honey, the aisles of the Summer Fancy Food show were filled with a tsunami of sauces and condiments with origins crisscrossing the globe. Check out the gallery below for the latest creations from brands including Chilau, Chingonas and Clark + Hopkins.
Carbone
New York City hot spot Carbone has bottled its popular Spicy Vodka sauce so consumers can enjoy the product from the comfort of their own homes. The seventh sauce to join Carbone’s lineup, Spicy Vodka sauce will be available via the brand’s website and on Amazon starting in July.
TBJ Gourmet
Globally-inspired spreads and condiments brand TBJ Gourmet has transitioned its line of upcycled bacon jams – available in Classic, Sweet Chili, Black Pepper and Honey Habanero varieties – from 9 oz. glass jars to plastic tubs. The new packaging features a photo of what each spread looks like accompanied by flavor descriptors.
Chilau
Emerging brand Chilau showcased its Original Southern Style Stew Base. Packaged in an 8 oz. glass jar, the base is made with celery, peppers, onion garlic and cayenne pepper and feeds four to eight people. The brand’s other stew base varieties include Low Country Citrus, Creole Trinity and Red Jerk Fusion.
Chingonas
Chingonas wants to introduce a Mexican staple, salsa macha, to the United States. Salsa macha is an oil-based chili crunch from Veracruz, Mexico crafted from variations of dried chiles, garlic, nuts and seeds fried in oil. Chingonas began after the brand’s founders, who also own a restaurant, needed a way to diversify their revenue streams during the pandemic. Additionally, the brand will soon roll out a Salsa Macha Seasoning.
Brianna’s
After completing its acquisition of cheese snack maker John Wm. Macy’s by its parent company, Brianna’s took to the show to highlight its new line of Avocado Oil Salad Dressings. Available in four flavors at launch – Dairy-Free Garden Ranch, Herb Vinaigrette, Classic Balsamic Vinaigrette and Caesar – the dressings retail for $36 per 6-pack of 10 oz. bottles.
Natharvest
Natharvest generated buzz about its newest release, Sweet and Sour Stingless Bee Honey. Sustainably sourced from farms in the mountains of Borneo Island, the blend is rich in phenolic acid and has a low-glycemic index. The honey itself comes from the Trigona bees of the Meliponini tribe. Each 5.88 oz. glass jar retails for $22.99.
Filippo Berio
At Fancy Food Filippo Berio showed off revamped labels for its olive oil line and two new pesto varieties, Basil & Ricotta Pesto and Vegan Basil Pesto. All of the brand’s olive oil products – EVOO, Robusto EVOO, Delicato EVOO, Organic EVOO, 100% Italiano EVOO, Olive Oil and Extra Light Olive Oil – now come in ergonomic, sustainable rPET packaging.
La Tourangelle
Woodland, California-based cooking oil brand La Tourangelle showcased four new products, Organic Smooth & Fruity Extra Virgin Olive Oil ($17.99), ROC Certified Non-Stick Cooking Spray ($4.99), ROC Certified Sunflower Oil ($10.99) and Black Truffle Infused Oil ($24.99). The brand is also slated to release a two-pack gift box of truffle oils – one White Truffle and one Black Truffle – in the near future.
Mike’s Organic Foods
Curry Love, made by Mike’s Organic Foods, , has entered the red hot chili crisp category with the launch of its Yum Phrik Thai Chili Crisp product. The chili crisp was showcased alongside two other new Thai-inspired offerings, Nam Phrik Pao Thai Chili Jam and Pad Phrik Pao Thai Wok Sauce. All three varieties come in 7 oz. jars and are marketed as “Spicy, Sweet, Irresistible.”
Clark + Hopkins
Clark + Hopkins paid homage to the nation’s capital with the launch of its newest hot sauce. Named “District Sauce,” the condiment features tasting notes of ginger, berbere and honey. The new offering joins the brand’s existing lineup of location-inspired hot sauces including Chesapeake Bay, Ethiopia, Florida, Georgia and Texas, among others. Clark + Hopkins also recently launched Ukraine hot sauce, proceeds of which will be donated to nonprofit World Central Kitchen.
