NOSH Live Winter 2021: D2C Powerhouses on Their Path to Growth

Direct-to-consumer sales became critical to brands’ success at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the channel has only continued to rise in importance. There are a number of ways to build online sales, be it via brand websites, online markets like Thrive Market and Amazon, delivery services such as GoPuff, Joker or Instacart, or through meal delivery platforms — which are increasingly expanding into the packaged goods space.

That said, just as brick and mortar retail may never be the right fit for some brands, nor is every online platform right for every product. In order to successfully grow a business, it’s vital to determine the right strategy — particularly for emerging brands with a finite amount of resources.

At NOSH Live four executives — Nick Ajluni and Nick Guillen, co-founders of Truff; Sashee Chandran, founder and CEO of Tea Drops; and Matt Jung, CEO of Last Crumb — shared their perspectives on the channel and how their respective brands have become masters of D2C sales. Their secrets to success include developing a clear voice, keeping audiences engaged, a focus on customer retention strategies and utilizing social media strategically.
