August New Product Gallery: Breakfast, Baking and Sweets

The first half of the August New Product Gallery highlights new breakfast and baking products along with sweet treats that hit shelves this month. The latest launch from better-for-you candy brand SmartSweets is Sourmelon Bites, containing 100 calories and three grams of sugar per bag. The Sourmelon Bites have hit shelves at Target and Vitamin Shoppe for $3.29 per bag, and are also sold on Amazon and the brand’s website.

Okina’s first product is a line of gluten-free and vegan baking mixes, made with ingredients sourced directly from organic and regenerative farms. The brand offers four baking mix varieties -- Classic Base Muffin + Bread, Carrot Currant Masala Muffin + Bread, Zucchini Double Chocolate Muffin + Bread and Banana Chocolate Chip Muffin -- all available for purchase on the brand’s website.

Certified Organic and Fair Trade Açaí company Sambazon launched new Ready-to-Eat Açaí Bowls. The vegan, non-GMO frozen bowls are available in Amazon Superberry, Berry Bliss and Peanut Butter Power varieties and come packaged in recyclable and compostable plant-fiber packaging. The bowls are on shelves now at Whole Foods Markets nationwide as well as select Publix, Walmart, Albertson, Wegmans, H-E-B and Target locations.

Dairy-free frozen dessert brand So Delicious updated its line of Light Frozen Desserts, a revamp of its frozen mousse line containing 330 calories or less per pint. The new line features new flavor names -- Salted Caramel, Peanut Butter, Strawberry, Cocoa Chip, Mint Chip and Tiramisu -- along with refreshed packaging, sold at retailers nationwide for $5.49 a pint.

Mission-focused startup The Soulfull Project partnered with the Central Texas Food Bank to launch co-branded packaging for its Brown Sugar Pecan Multigrain Hot Cereal. For every purchase, a serving will be donated to food banks in the Texas and Mid South region. The brand has also pledged to donate 30,000 boxes to the food bank.

Egg brand Vital Farms combined pasture-raised eggs and cheese with humanely raised meats and vegetables for its new Egg Bites. Available in four flavors, each microwaveable package comes with two Egg Bites, containing 16 to 19 grams of protein per serving.

Ben & Jerry’s is already gearing up for the holiday season, rolling out two new seasonal limited batch Cookie Dough Chunks flavors in Gingerbread and Cinnamon Bun flavors. The Cookie Dough Chunks are available in supermarkets and participating Scoop Shops nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.99 to $5.49 per bag.

California almond brand Blue Diamond expanded into the baking aisle with the launch of Almond Flour. The finely sifted flour is sold for $9.98 per one pound bag and $20.99 per three pound bag at retailers nationwide as well as on Amazon and the brand’s website.

Greek olive oil maker Kosterina introduced new Dark Chocolate Balsamic Vinegar made from Lambrusco and Trebbiano grapes from Modena, Italy. Now on shelves in eight Whole Foods regions, the balsamic vinegar is intended for use as a dessert topping or for baking or marinating.

The latest flavor from overnight oats brand Brave is Peanut Butter Banana, containing gluten free oats, black chia seeds, dried bananas, pecans, hemp seeds, peanut flour, dried strawberries, sea salt and monk fruit. The new flavor is sold in packs of 5, 10, 15 and 20 on the brand’s website.

Upfield introduced its new plant butter brand, Flora, a vegan, dairy-free, gluten free, and non-GMO plant butter intended for baking and cooking. Made from a blend of palm, sunflower and canola oils, unsalted and salted varieties of Flora Plant butter are sold at Kroger for $3.49 per 8.8 oz. brick.

Peanut butter brand Fatso reformulated its Cocoa flavor, launching Cocoa V.2 featuring improved texture and flavor. Fatso Cocoa V.2 is available in retailers across Canada, in Whole Foods Market in Washington and Oregon and on Amazon.

Nutritional science company Ajinomoto Health & Nutrition launched Indigo Marine Collagen protein powder, sourced from wild-caught fish. One serving of the protein powder contains 10 grams of marine collagen, with no sugar, dairy, soy or gluten. The protein powder, which can be mixed in beverages or baked goods, is sold on the brand’s website and Amazon.
