Watch: Jeni’s Leadership Talks Communication, Culture and Community

It’s often difficult for founders to determine — and then accept — when additional leadership is needed to boost their brand to the next level. Since the dynamic of senior leadership needs to reflect and match a company’s overall culture, it has to be the right fit. When Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams founder Jeni Britton Bauer brought on former General Electric lawyer John Lowe as CEO in 2009, the pair found constant communication — and constantly improving communication — the best ingredients for success.

For Lowe, that meant finding new ways to connect with the “loving and caring artists” at Jeni’s, providing an open environment for the entire team to offer their opinions. Under his leadership, the values-driven brand became a certified B corp in 2013 and has grown both its retail products and scoop shops, including launching a dairy-free line. In this video from NOSH Live Summer 2019 June 11 in New York City, the two discuss using thoughtful communication to take their ice cream business to even sweeter heights.
