CPG Food Brand Wella Acquires Thunderbird
AUSTIN, Texas— Wella, a CPG manufacturer of better-for-you foods, announced that they acquired the well-known nutrition bar company, Thunderbird. The history of Thunderbird, its flavors, its clean ingredients and its innovation all made the acquisition a natural next step after Wella partnered with Thunderbird as a co-packer in 2022.
The Thunderbird ethos and products parallel perfectly with Wella founders’ long-standing history of innovation in the CPG industry. Now, the two unstoppable brands are under one roof, as one family, with one goal: To continue making everyday foods people love with delicious, simple ingredients. State of the art engineering, innovative small-batch production processes and capabilities, in-house research and development and no middle man are only a few of the reasons the company is locked and loaded for a big 2023.
Before being acquired by Wella, Thunderbird was founded in 2010 in Austin, Texas, when two adventurous triathletes were inspired to create a great tasting, whole food energy bar. They believed simple, real food is all that’s needed to make a delicious bar. (They were right!). Today, Thunderbird’s reputation and flavor innovation hold true.
“We could not be more thrilled about adding Thunderbird to our family! We’ve always been about making real foods that taste amazing, now our table is growing and we’re hungrier than ever!” – Deborah Nease, Wella CEO & Founder
About Wella
Wella was founded by Deborah and Glenn Nease, who started the company in Austin, TX, born from their deep passions for food, flavor and the pure magic that happens when family—the one you were given and the ones you choose—break bread. Decades later, their passions trickled down to their own children and led to the family building Wella, in Texas, together. Feeling called to make everything in-house and lift up local talent, they established their own facility in Lockhart and continue to source and hire from the great state of Texas. From Lauren in the test kitchen and Andrew leading production to Anna’s photography – there’s nostalgia and family in every bite. Today, Wella continues to innovate organic, delicious alternatives of the everyday favorite foods you love – now with Thunderbird at the table!
