CHICAGO– Pete’s Living Greens, the California-based produce company specializing in hydroponically grown, Non-GMO Verified living lettuces and living cress varieties, will debut their newest product line, Pete’s Living Greens Living Strips in its game-changing packaging at the 2017 United Fresh Expo & Conference. Living Strips are a finalist for the United Fresh Innovation Award in the Best New Packaging category. Winners will be announced during the tradeshow.
Available in five varieties – Baby Romaine, Spring Mix, Sweet Butter Blend, Italian Mix and Upland Cress – Pete’s Living Strips offer consumers a fresh alternative to bagged salad. With the new Strips, the best salad varieties now come in living versions with their roots still intact for supreme flavor and longevity.
Each Living Strip comes in a patent-pending 100% recyclable plastic container, known as the Home Harvest Pack™, with a revolutionary “root containment compartment,” giving consumers an easy, no-mess way to harvest only the leaves that they need by pulling or cutting them out of the top portion of the package. The new Living Strips are now available at California-area retailers including Safeway, Von’s, Albertson’s and Bristol Farms.
Formerly known as Hollandia Produce and recognized for its Live Gourmet and Grower Pete’s lines of living lettuce and cress varieties, Pete’s Living Greens recently rebranded across all product lines with a fresh new name and logo accompanied by a more modern, natural look. The updates to the design and to the brand as a whole address consumer purchase drivers and sow the seeds – literally and figuratively – for product innovation.
“As we continue to grow, our focus is still on providing consumers with top-quality fresh and sustainable produce,” said Corrie Hutchens, the Senior Director of Marketing for Pete’s Living Greens. “We are very excited to be a finalist for Best New Packaging category and to be showcasing at United Fresh Expo while we spring into this new era as the first nationally recognized brand of living produce.”
Pete’s Living Greens’ existing line of living lettuces and cress varieties are available at select grocers, specialty health markets and club stores nationwide with a broader expansion in foodservice and on the East Coast through 2017.
The United Fresh Expo will be held from June 13th through 15th at the West Hall of the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, IL. Attendees are invited to the Pete’s Living Greens booth (#2531), where the new Strips will be on display alongside a Living Lettuce Wall made up entirely of heads of Living Butter Lettuce.
About Pete’s Living Greens
Founded in 1970 under the name Hollandia Produce, Pete’s Living Greens is the California-based, employee-owned and operated leader in hydroponically grown living greens, using up to 85% less water and 70% less land than traditional growers. Every vegetable from Pete’s Living Greens is grown in state-of-the-art greenhouses where light, temperature, humidity and nutrients are controlled, which increases crop yields and allows for year-round availability. Best known for its line of Living Butter Lettuce, Pete’s Living Greens offers consumers the highest-quality produce possible with their roots still intact, allowing consumers to enjoy long-lasting farm-fresh flavor right from the store. All of Pete’s Living Greens products are sustainably grown without the use of GMOs or harmful insecticides and packaged in the brand’s award-winning, 100% recyclable signature clear clamshell that acts as a mini-greenhouse to reduce damage, shrinkage and contaminants.
