Marco Sweets & Spices Ceases Operations

Marco Sweets & Spices is ceasing operations after four years on the market, co-founder and chief marketing officer Avery Henderson announced in a LinkedIn post today.
Henderson said the globally inspired frozen dessert brand was unable to financially recover following a widespread product recall earlier this summer. The company’s sole manufacturer, Totally Cool Inc., initiated a recall of all products by all brands produced at the facility after the presence of Listeria was detected on an ice cream cake line during a routine inspection. At the time, Marco posted the recall notice on its website and assured customers that no Listeria contamination had been detected in its products. No illnesses were reported in connection with the recall.
Marco’s ice cream pints, available in such varieties as Turkish Mocha, Moroccan Honey Nut, Green Tea White Chocolate and others, were available in hundreds of stores nationwide including Safeway, Sprouts, select Whole Foods Market stores as well as many regional and independent retailers. Earlier this year, the company expanded into five divisions of Albertsons, bringing its total distribution footprint to 2,000 stores.
Additionally, the brand was set to introduce ice cream sandwiches over the summer through GoPuff.
“As you may have noticed, we’ve been pretty quiet on our socials and LinkedIn over the last few months,” Henderson wrote in the LinkedIn post. “We want to thank each and every one of you for all of your love and support over the last four years.”
Henderson had not responded to Nosh’s request for comment by the time of publication.
