AMMON, Idaho — May 20, 2026 — Hapinest has renamed its freeze-dried fruit-and-vegetable children’s snack line “Smoothie Crisps,” retiring the name “Fruit and Veggie Snack.” The new name and packaging made its debut in March at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, Calif.
The company initially soft-launched the product in October 2025 and has been selling direct-to-consumer at hapinest.com, including a subscription model, while ramping toward broader retail distribution. Various shapes were made, with the current iterations being a monkey and bear. New flavors and shapes, including varieties designed for an adult line, are in development.
“When people heard ‘fruit and veggie snack,’ they pictured gummies, fruit leather or dried fruit — not crispy and not in a fun shape kids love,” said Hapinest Founder and COO David Follett. “Smoothie Crisps is a product that didn’t previously exist.”
Smoothie Crisps are made by blending up to 13 whole fruits and vegetables — including sweet potatoes, spinach, blueberries, carrots and cherries — into proprietary blends, injecting the blends into shapes kids recognize, and freeze-drying it. The process retains up to 97 percent of the original nutrition. The snacks contain no added sugar, no artificial colors or dyes, and no preservatives, and are gluten and dairy free. They are a source of 12 natural vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B6, magnesium and manganese.
According to Follett, Smoothie Crisps enter a toddler and kids’ snack category dominated by products that use fruit purées, added sugars, synthetic nutrients or dairy. He says Hapinest’s approach of blending nutrient-dense whole foods like sweet potato and spinach with no additives raises the bar for nutritional standards. The company even posts a side-by-side comparison of competing products on its website.
“We set out to make a super naturally healthy snack as an alternative to candy, but at the same time is genuinely nutritiously addictive and irresistibly fun to eat,” said Follett. “Kids have to guard their stash because parents love them too.”
