Masala Mama RTE Beans Launch Nationwide at Sprouts
Masala Mama Launches Line of Ready to Eat Legumes at Sprouts
nationwide, Bringing a Playful Take on Classic Flavors to the
Table
Brooklyn, NY — Masala Mama, a New York-based food company known for its Easy
Cooking Sauces that marry clean and healthy ingredients with Indian-inspired flavors,
has introduced an innovative line of protein-rich ready-to-eat legumes with four
delicious SKUs: Ooh La La Lentils, Cha Cha Chickpeas, La Bamba Black Beans, and
Rah-Rah Red Beans. This expansion into the world of beans and lentils showcases
Masala Mama's commitment to providing flavorful, fresh, and convenient options for
consumers seeking nutritious and quick meals. After a successful rotation in the
Sprouts innovation program earlier this year, the line launched in the main set in June
in all Sprouts locations.
“Our goal is to make food that reflects both the authentic flavors of homestyle cooking
and contemporary needs for clean ingredients and sustainable living.” explains Nidhi
Jalan, Masala Mama’s founder and creator. “Growing up in India, legumes were an
intrinsic part of our diet. Not only were they a delicious addition to any meal, they also
were a rich source of fiber and protein. In today’s context they are more important than
ever as we seek to maintain a healthy lifestyle and care for our planet. What makes our
products unique is our attention to detail, the way we balance spices and flavors and
our use of quality ingredients and healthy oils.”
Inspired by the rich culinary heritage of India and building modern flavor profiles on
that foundation, Masala Mama's new line of beans and lentils offers a versatile and
delectable range of options that complement a variety of dishes. The products are all
plant-based, non-GMO verified and made with extra virgin avocado oil and gluten-free
ingredients, and contain 10g to 13g of protein and 9g to 15g of fiber.
The new plant-based line is available for purchase at other retailers across the country
including The Fresh Market, Earth Fare and at e-tailers such as Fresh Direct and
Vitacost, as well as on Masala Mama’s online store.
About the new line:
Ooh La La Lentils were conceived in a blackout, when Nidhi cooked by candlelight.
“When it was done it was like magic in a bowl,” she says. It’s deliciously satisfying and
pairs perfectly with rice, but also makes for a hearty rejuvenating soup and can be
served with crusty bread.
Cha-Cha comes from Chatpata (spicy and tangy), and in this homestyle recipe Cha Cha
Chickpeas are smothered in a delicious thick, piquant and spicy sauce. Flavored with
aromatic spices, dried pomegranates and green mango, it makes for a dangerously
addictive dish. “We kids would sashay up to the table in delight when this was on the
menu,” says Nidhi.
Rah-Rah Red Beans is a quintessential comfort food in which silky soft pinto beans are
cooked in a mild and subtly flavored onion-tomato gravy layered with warm spices.
Nidhi explains, “it was a family favorite in our household and a fixture at our Sunday
lunch table. For expats like me, this dish brings instant nostalgia and memories of
home!”
La Bamba Black Beans are seductive and genre-defying, just like the dance. Dark and
mysterious, with hidden depths, they sparkle with bright red sweet peppers and notes
of smoky chipotle. Says Nidhi, “they’re versatile, alluring and delicious!” They’re perfect
in a taco or over rice, or used as a flavorful dip with chips.
