⚡️ Margarita Womack, Founder & CEO, MasPanadas

Womack’s MasPanadas frozen empanada brand is on the move, taking off from its original digs in D.C.’s Union Kitchen to its own facility, thanks to backing by Angeles Investors and Union Kitchen Ventures. A Ph.D. in biology, Womack is now working on food chemistry and social change with a brand that has come out of COVID with strong momentum in an expanding set of channels. The Colombia native – whose family fled guerrillas in her home country when she was 18 – has made a point of hiring nearly all women in her shop, many of whom are refugees from South American and Central American countries. Social entrepreneurship is important but when it’s bolstered by a path to profitability, the change becomes bankable.
