Gallery: December’s New Products, Part 1

The last products to launch in 2020 reflected many of the top trends in natural products from over the past year in the natural products industry, including plant-based, immunity-boosting and sustainably sourced products. Check out the gallery for several of December’s notable releases, including Simulate’s latest chicken “simulation” and new superfood blends from Orgain and Laird Superfood.

Chicken alternative brand Simulate expanded beyond nuggets with the launch of Chicken Discs, frozen plant-based patties containing 17 grams of protein per serving. Currently sold in packs of eight or 16 on the brand’s website, the Chicken Discs will launch in retail later this year.

Orgain released a new Superfoods + Immunity Up! nutrition powder in Honey Crisp Apple flavor. The powder, which features an immunity blend of ingredients including apple cider vinegar, ashwagandha and reishi mushrooms, amla fruit, organic kale, chia and blueberries, is sold at all Costco locations.

Organic breakfast and snack food brand Nature’s Path debuted its first grain-free hot cereals, which combine watermelon seed protein with nuts and seeds. Available in Maple Almond Crunch and Cinnamon Apple Crisp flavors, the grain-free hot cereals are solid in 4-packs of individual packets at retailers nationwide, including Target, Kroger, Sprouts and Whole Foods.

Lidl launched a new chocolate bar called Way to Go! which uses 100% traceable and sustainable Fairtrade cocoa sourced from the Kuapa Kokoo cooperative in Ghana. The bars contribute to the living income for cocoa farmers by guaranteeing the Fairtrade Minimum Price for cocoa as well as funds for farmers to invest in developing new farming techniques and diversifying with additional crops. Lidl’s Way to Go! bar is available in milk and dark chocolate at all Lidl US stores.

Nighttime ice cream brand Nightfood announced a new look for its packaging, with all flavors now featuring a dark blue background and calling out it’s “sleep-friendly” attribute on pack. The update packaging should begin hitting shelves by March.

Artisan oil maker La Tourangelle launched two new cooking oils: single-origin Regenerative Sunflower Oil and Vegetable Oil. The Vegetable Oil, packaged in a 100% post-consumer recycled PET bottle, is available nationally at Safeway, Albertsons, Kroger, Walmart and on the brand’s website for $4.99, while the Sunflower Oil will hit shelves in January.

Boost Coffee is the latest launch from plant-based brand Laird Superfood featuring a blend of medium roast coffee beans, functional extracts from Red Reishi and Maitake mushrooms, Vitamin D from Agaricus mushrooms and olive leaf. Boost Coffee is available for $17.95 per 12 oz. bag.

“Squeeze-and-serve” tahini maker Mighty Sesame Co. launched a new Harissa flavor, made with Ethiopian sesame seeds and a blend of natural harissa spices. Mighty Sesame Harissa Tahini has a suggested retail price of $4.99 per 10.9 oz. bottle.

Bachan’s rolled out a gluten-free variety of its Japanese Barbecue Sauce, made using a wheat-free tamari rather than soy sauce. The 17 oz. bottles are sold on the brand’s website for $14.99 and will soon be available at retailers nationwide.

The latest flavor launch from Miami-based cracker brand Craize is the Everything Craize Cracker, combining Everything Bagel seasoning with its toasted sweet corn cracker base. The crackers, sold in 4 oz. resealable pouches, are now available on the brand’s website.

Fresh prepared meal delivery service Freshly announced a new product line dedicated to consumers with active lifestyles, FreshlyFit. Its over 25 ready-to-eat, low carb and high protein meals contain 550 calories or less and are formulated by nutritionists and chefs, available starting at $8.49 per meal.

Nut milk base brand JOI expanded its offerings with the launch of its new Cashew Hazelnut Oat Creamer, a plant-based creamer concentrate, made with no oils or added sugars. The self-stable creamer contains only five ingredients -- cashews, gluten-free oats, hazelnuts, organic pea protein and Himalayan Salt -- and can be mixed with water to create a custom creamer.

Zesty Z

Zesty Z rolled out two new Mediterranean-inspired seasoning shakers: Tangy Everything Bagel and Za’atar. The low sodium and gluten free flavors are sold in singles and packs of two, four and six on the brand’s website and Amazon. The new launches are designed to help the brand expand further into the spice set.

Knott's Foods

Knott’s Foods expanded its pimento cheese and spread line with two new varieties of Knott Yo Grandma’s Pimento Cheese, original and jalapeno, both made with shredded cheddar cheese, cream cheese and mayonnaise. The gluten-free spreads, which the company says are its first “clean-label” options, are sold for $5.99 per 12 oz. tub.
