Hawthorne Foods Announces B Corp Certification

HUDSON, N.Y.— Hawthorne Foods–maker of wildly delicious, ready-to-eat fermented vegetables sold nationwide–is proud to announce their certification as a B Corp. Meeting this challenging external benchmark gives the official stamp to a decades-long mission: using business as a force for good.

The outcome of a company-wide effort beginning in the spring of 2022, the certification means Hawthorne Foods has met B Corp’s incredibly high standards and confirms they have built a business prioritizing people and planet, in addition to profit. Since their first sauerkraut bubbled into being at the non-profit Hawthorne Valley Farm, Hawthorne Foods has worked to do the right thing through supporting living soil, living wages and living foods. From reinvesting 1% of sales back into their small organic family-farm partners to providing living-wage jobs in their community, Hawthorne Foods has always believed that their humble vegetables can help brighten the world.

The Hudson Valley-based company joins an international movement of more than 5,000 purpose-led businesses that have achieved B Corp’s rigorous standards of social and environmental responsibility and transparency. The B Corp certification provides a powerful framework for continuous improvement that will help provide a path for Hawthorne Foods to double down on its commitment to the triple bottom line as they continue to produce and expand their line of wild-fermented, ready-to-eat vegetables like Golden Turmeric Sauerkraut and Kimchi.

“We’re proud to join an incredible group of food role models including Ben & Jerrys, Once Upon a Farm and Stonyfield Organic to shine a light on how brands can build a positive impact into the heart of their businesses,” says Kris Marx, CEO of Hawthorne Foods.

“Our B Corp certification is an exciting recognition of the decades of hard work by the team and their drive to do the right thing.”

About Hawthorne Foods

Hawthorne Foods has fermented wildly delicious, organic, ready-to-eat vegetables for two decades in the Hudson Valley, using business as a force for good. Our jarred vegetables–like Ruby Sauerkraut, Kimchi and Wild-fermented Hot Sauce–elevate dishes into something more flavorful, colorful and alive with just a simple spoonful. But our story starts long before the jar, in the dirt. Our vegetables are often grown regeneratively, by organic family farm partners we purchase from directly. These stewards of the land nurture their living soil to grow the best vegetables possible, which become the nourishing foundation of our probiotic products. Just like our farm partners, we work to do the right thing. From reinvesting 1% of sales back into our small organic family-farm partners to providing living-wage jobs in our community, we believe that our humble vegetables can help brighten the world.
