Atlantic Sea Farms Launches New Branding
BIDDEFORD, Maine— In its continuing effort to boost coastal economies and improve ocean health through regenerative kelp farming, woman-run Atlantic Sea Farms — the American leader in seaweed aquaculture —launches new branding across its retail and wholesale products, social channels, and website.
The new branding puts a spotlight on Atlantic Sea Farms’ partner seaweed farmers, thereby further driving home their central role in North America’s regenerative seaweed aquaculture space. On-product photos and illustrations of seaweed farming and farmers telegraph Atlantic Sea Farms’ commitment to award-winning flavor innovation and impactful socioeconomic and environmental efforts. Scannable QR codes leading to videos and interviews bring consumers right into the regenerative kelp farming action.
“Now more than ever, consumers are seeking real and transparent connections to the people who grow their food,” says Atlantic Sea Farms Chief Marketing Officer, Jesse Baines. “Through our new packaging and interactive content, we are helping consumers connect directly to the family sea farmers growing their food. Right from the package they can learn about a centuries-old maritime heritage, the exciting benefits of farming kelp for our oceans, why kelp is a superfood, and how to cook with it. There’s so much to say about this growing industry and we knew our customers wanted to better understand what they’re supporting when they choose our brand.”
The new look is also visually striking and underscores the deliciousness and ease of use of Atlantic Sea Farms’ award-winning retail food products. Beautiful use-case images — a golden Sea-Veggie Burger atop a toasted bun and piled high with colorful fixings, a refreshing blended kelp smoothie, and more — make for on-shelf standouts.
Seaweed health benefits, for both people and the planet, are also clearly communicated. A quick glance provides insight into the key factors that make seaweed one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, including the anti-inflammatory compounds and antioxidants provided by the sea vegetable; essential nutrients, such as iodine, which supports thyroid health; and soluble fiber, which may help lower cholesterol.
Coinciding with the new branding launch is Atlantic Sea Farms website redesign, which provides further information regarding the benefits of farming seaweed for the health of our oceans, consumers, and coastal economies. A new “Where to Buy” feature directs consumers nationwide to the stores nearest them where favorite Atlantic Sea Farms products can be purchased. An updated recipe section expands ideas for how to cook with all nine Atlantic Sea Farms retail products.
According to a Global Market Insights Report, the commercial seaweed market is projected to reach $85 billion by 2026.
Carbon negative and hyper-efficient, Atlantic Sea Farms’ domestically cultivated kelp is a regenerative, zero-input aquaculture crop that requires no fertilizer, pesticides, feeds, arable land or fresh water.
“Our new branding emphasizes the role of regenerative seaweed farming in helping working waterfront communities thrive and improving ocean health in the face of climate change. It also helps further our goal to make climate-hero kelp easy to incorporate into everyday meals,” Atlantic Sea Farms CEO Briana Warner says. “With regenerative kelp, line-grown by our partner fisher-farmers, our products support local farms, enhance ocean health, and offer food enthusiasts and climate-conscious consumers a delicious, climate-friendly, nutrient-dense, plant-based superfood boost. Benefitting planet and people, this speaks to our mantra, ‘good food should do good.’”
Since 2018, Atlantic Sea Farms has removed upwards of 300,000 pounds of carbon from local Maine waters while supporting partner fisher-farmers. “Every product that we get into the hands of consumers helps us improve the world we are living in. We are incredibly proud of what we are building,” Warner says.
Atlantic Sea Farms worked with designer Laura Hansen of LaHa Designs to reimagine how their story would be visually communicated on shelf and online. “Laura’s deep experience in CPG design and experiential brand storytelling comes through powerfully in this rebrand,” says Baines. “She really brought our message and products to life.”
Atlantic Sea Farms’ award-winning fresh-frozen and fermented kelp products have been lauded by the Good Food Foundation, Specialty Food Association, NEXTY and many more. Its three jarred ferments – best-selling Sea-Chi Kelp Kimchi, Fermented Seaweed Salad, and new Spicy Gochujang Seaweed Salad – are live ferments – packed with probiotics that are considered to improve digestion, strengthen immunity and improve cognitive function.
