Tandem Foods Opens New Facility, Increasing Wafer Bar Production Capacity by 150%

Better-for-you snacks contract manufacturer Tandem Foods has officially begun production at its new Cyprus, Calif., facility, which marks the company’s largest investment to date.
The line is dedicated to producing high-quality wafer bars, expanding Tandem’s capacity in the segment by 150%. Through this expansion, the company claims it has established itself as the largest wafer manufacturer in the U.S.
“For current partners, [the new line] means greater supply chain resilience and the confidence to scale with demand. For prospective customers, it’s an opportunity to partner with America’s largest wafer manufacturer – backed by decades of expertise, operational excellence and a commitment to delivering unmatched value in the nutritional snack space,” Michael Buick, CEO of Tandem Foods, told Nosh via email.
As part of Tandem’s commitment to sustainability, the production line features eco-efficient baking technology that “significantly” reduces gas consumption and emissions. The system captures and utilizes heat more effectively during the baking process, which, according to Buick, sets a new benchmark for responsible manufacturing in the category.
The company designed the Cypress facility with future expansion in mind, reserving space for additional manufacturing lines to support long-term growth in the better-for-you snack category.
“This investment not only strengthens our commitment to U.S.-based manufacturing but also positions us to scale with emerging opportunities to meet the evolving needs of health-conscious consumers,” said Buick.
Tandem Foods was formed earlier this year through the merger of co-manufacturers Bar Bakers and TruFood Manufacturing. The combined company operates eight facilities across Pittsburgh, Long Island and California, specializing in the manufacturing of baked, extruded and cold-slab bars, chocolate molding, cookies, wafers, fruit bars and granola.
According to Buick, the company’s strategic partnerships with global alternative asset management platform Mubadala Capital and private equity firm Manna Tree have been “instrumental” in its growth.
“Backed by this investment, along with our decades of industry expertise and strong value-driven foundation, Tandem Foods is perfectly positioned to capitalize on the health and wellness movement and become the go-to partner for customers seeking innovation, scale and impact in the better-for-you snack market,” said Buick.
