Gelato Machines and Instagramable Goat Cheeses: Dairy Innovations Seen At Summer Fancy Foods

With innovations ranging from countertop gelato machines to Chili Lime flavored goat cheese, dairy brands did not disappoint at this year’s Summer Fancy Food show. Check out the roundup to see a selection of the dairy delights we sampled at this year’s show including new products from Laura Chenel, Marin French Cheese Company, Xinca and more.

Montchevre

Goat cheese maker Montchevre doubled down on its core offering with the launch of Duos, filled goat cheese logs in two flavors: Sweet Hot Peppers + Garlic & Herb and Blueberry + Lemonade. The 4 oz. cheese logs feature “a visibly vibrant flavored core,” surrounded with herbed goat cheese. The brand also rolled out a new “Make Mischief with Montchevre” marketing campaign, as well as new packaging with a (now) horizontal orientation.

Marin French Cheese Company

Marin French Cheese Company unveiled its latest seasonal innovation – Petite Boo – which is a triple crème brie mixed with orange annatto paste and then coated in vegetable ash. The new black and orange cheese is available for pre-order online starting in July and will begin to ship out at the beginning of October. The “spooky” product was tested in Marin’s own retail store last year and the company is now seeking wider distribution this Halloween season.

Laura Chenel

Goat cheesemonger Laura Chenel is looking to move from cheese plates into the center of the plate, exhibiting a new seasonal launch – Chèvre En Croute – at the show. The product is made with tangy goat cheese that is seasoned with thyme and rosemary and wrapped in pastry dough and is intended to be both an appetizer or side to soup or salad. Chèvre En Croute will launch at select grocery retailers in October and be made available through the holiday season.

Solato Gelato

Gelato maker (and IOT developer) Solato Gelato showed off the mechanics of making the perfect cup of the cold, creamy, Italian indulgence at this year’s show. The Israeli company highlighted the wide range of dairy and plant-based flavors that can be made using its compact, “instant” ice cream machine, which is already being utilized in airport lounges and corporate offices. While other brand partnerships may follow, for now, the company is focused on their own ice cream bases.

Xinca x RIND by Dina and Joshua

Salvadorian food maker Xinca showed off its collaboration with vegan cheese maker RIND by Dina & Joshua, a Carrot Cheese and Loroco-filed Pupusa. The frozen Salvadorian style food is made with a corn masa tortilla and can be prepared on a stovetop or in an airfryer. Each pack comes with four pupusas and retails for $20.

Laclare Creamery

Wisconsin-based creamery Laclare unveiled new flavored goat cheese logs in Chili Lime, Mediterranean and Pumpkin flavors. The brand sources all of its milk from local goat farmers and makes a wide variety of flavored logs in addition to hard goat cheeses and “Goat Mozzarella.”

Royal Hollandia

FrieslandCampina-owned cheese brand Royal Hollandia introduced four new sliced products including Black Garlic Gouda, Walnut Gouda, Garden Herb Gouda and Very Berry Goat Cheese. The new collection is packed in resealable plastic trays and aimed at expanding the brand into the deli set.
