Listen To This NFL Star’s New Whole Foods Rap

Martellus Bennett may have just signed a contract to play tight end for the Green Bay Packers, but it seems the NFL star is moonlighting as a Whole Foods Market-loving rapper.

The former New England Patriot dropped an EP album entitled I am not a rapper but some of my friends are… under the name of MartysaurusRex earlier this month. The album, which launched on iTunes and Soundcloud.com on Wednesday and features a cartoon of Bennett dressed up as “Quailman” from 1990s sitcom Doug on the cover, is comprised of five songs. One track in particular is aimed squarely at the intersection of organic, non-GMO loving consumers and hip hop lovers: “Whole Foods,” featuring MatchBox Tony.

In the song, Bennett and Tony turn on-trend foodie phrases including “self checkout in my own lane / stacking bread that’s whole grain,” “my bank account is full of carbs / these protein shakes and protein bars,” and “plant-based used to bag that / talking grams that trans fat.” Most notably not mentioned in the song? His love of bacon.

In his Soundcloud profile, Bennett wrote that he decided to launch the EP — his second — as part of his creative journey for 2017.

“‘I am not a rapper but some of my friends are…’ is exactly what the title says it it is,” he wrote in introducing the album. “It was just me and some of my friends hanging out in the studio making music for fun and this is what came out of it. Pretty cool to have so many talented friends and be able to create with them at a high level. I am on a mission to express my creativity in as many ways as possible in 2017, this is a part of my creative journey.”

This isn’t Bennett’s first food-centric venture off the football field. He released his first EP entitled Fast Food in 2012. He also created a multimedia production company, Imagination Agency, aimed toward children in 2016.
