ALOHA Achieves Climate Neutral Certification

ALOHA, an award-winning plant-based protein brand and Certified B Corporation, is proud to announce it has officially obtained Climate Neutral Certification. As one of the first plant-based food brands, and the first plant-based protein bar, to become Climate Neutral Certified, ALOHA is committed to leading by example, focused on doing its part to combat climate change. ALOHA achieved this certification by measuring its 2022 greenhouse gas emissions footprint, implementing emissions reduction plans, and investing in carbon credits to compensate for that footprint.

“As a plant-based company and certified B Corporation, we believe we have a responsibility to take care of the planet and understand that true impact comes from how we operate across every aspect of our business,” says Brad Charron, ALOHA CEO. “That’s why we are committed to continuously learning, evolving and taking the actions required to be Climate Neutral Certified, leading with our food, our mission, and our people so we can drive meaningful and sustainable change within the category.”

Climate Neutral Certified is the Standard earned by companies that measure, reduce, and compensate for their greenhouse gas emissions from creating and delivering products. To meet the Standard, ALOHA worked with the Climate Neutral team to implement time-bound reduction action plans, including improving supply chain logistics, optimizing shipping routes, and increasing renewable energy usage and sourcing opportunities. ALOHA is also investing in Sustainable Agriculture and third-party verified carbon offset projects that support the protections of forests and the deployment of renewable wind energy technologies, including Vaspet Wind Power Project and North Maine Woods Forestry Project.

“We are excited to congratulate ALOHA on becoming Climate Neutral Certified for the first time,” says Austin Whitman, CEO of Climate Neutral. “They join a growing community of brands that collaborate and learn from one another as they seek to transform their businesses. With its focus on healthy products, ALOHA has a perfect opportunity to help consumers understand that their purchases impact both individual and planetary health. We look forward to working with ALOHA as they continue their climate work in the years ahead.”

This certification is a natural progression for ALOHA, whose mission is to create delicious and nutritious food while making a positive impact on the world. It follows on the heels of a special edition impact product, The Kona Bar, which launched last month. The Kona Bar underscores ALOHA’s commitment to investing in sustainable farming and agricultural practices, with its three partner farms in Hawai’i serving as prime examples of what the future of farming should look like. The Kona Bar is also the world’s first commercially available food product made with ultra-sustainable Ponova oil from Pongamia trees, a climate-resilient, super-tree that revitalizes the land and communities where it’s grown. 10% of proceeds from the bar are donated to Kupu, a nonprofit organization that invests in Hawai’i’s youth through land stewardship and hands-on environmental education.

As it gains momentum in the plant-based category with the #1 fastest growing protein bar two years in a row, ALOHA is committed to supporting providers of existing climate solutions while championing new and emerging ones, to ultimately achieve net-zero. Their journey demonstrates how small, innovative companies have the power to make meaningful contributions all while balancing purpose with profit. With this big step ALOHA hopes to inspire and challenge other brands, both big and small, to join them in their mission to drive sustainable change in the food category.
