Jeni’s Launches Limited-Run Flavor With Stone Mocha IPA

Fans of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and Stone Brewing will remember the spicy Xocorosa, the ice cream flavor born from Stone Xocoveza, a cult-favorite holiday mocha stout. This summer, Jeni’s and Stone Brewing have reunited with a brand-new flavor mash up: Mocha Black Cherry Ice Cream.

“Our ice creams typically start with an idea—a single flavor or a combination of ingredients that we build upon,” said founder Jeni Britton Bauer. “But to create our second collaboration ice cream with California’s lauded Stone Brewing, we worked backward, allowing the flavors in their Stone Mocha IPA to lead the way. The beer has the bitterness of an imperial IPA, that cocoa-coffee indulgence of a mocha stout, and hints of fruit. Our Mocha Black Cherry hits all these notes: soft ice cream that clashes with sweet-sour cherry sauce and bitter cocoa nibs.”

Pairing beer and ice creams has long been a passion for Jeni Britton Bauer, a natural match made in heaven, with beer often bringing out the bitterness and dryness of sweeter ice creams. Inversely, Stone has spent years experimenting with taming the bitterness of coffee and chocolate before releasing their Stone Mocha IPA. “We thought it was about time we use two amazing ingredients together, coffee and chocolate, and apply them to our favorite beer style: IPA,” said Jeremy Moynier, Senior Innovation Brewing Manager for Stone Brewing.

“The interplay of the coffee and chocolate along with lactose, which gives a milky creaminess, and then rounding out with bright, intense, fruity hops, makes for a complex and layered beer. A true feast for the senses.”

While Stone Mocha IPA defies styles, blurring the line between an IPA and a stout, brewed using a combination of golden-roasted coffee, pure dark chocolate and a barrage of citrusy hops, Jeni’s Mocha Black Cherry Ice Cream uses plush coffee-steeped cream with cocoa nibs and a gorgeous ribbon of house-made tart and black cherry sauce to create the perfect palate combination for hot summer days.

About Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams was founded in 2002 by James Beard Award winning cookbook author Jeni Britton Bauer. Jeni’s ahead-of-the-trend vision—using whole ingredients and dairy from grass-pastured cows, rather than synthetic flavorings and commodity ice cream mix—coupled with inspired flavors, sparked the artisan ice cream movement more than a decade before it would become a top food trend. Today, we are a community of growers, makers, producers, artists, scientists, and storytellers devoted to making really great ice creams that bring people together and help them connect. We like to make people feel good.
