Yumbini Announces Addition of Mild & Creamy Red Beans and Rice

Yumbini Foods, LLC of Oakland, CA announces the addition of Mild & Creamy Red Beans and Rice to its line-up of quick bean and rice dry mixes. The new flavor is unique in that it contains mashed beans for a creamy texture that is very comforting. As one taster of the winning prototype exclaimed: “This is so good, I am going to eat the whole thing by myself right now!”

Like the rest of the Yumbini line, Mild & Creamy Red Beans and Rice is a simple blend of beans, rice and seasonings.  More beans than rice make it high in fiber, low in saturated fat, with 15g protein; all without added sugar, preservatives, MSG, or too much salt.  One package, combined with water and heated, makes a satisfying meal in just 6 minutes.

According to founder and certified food scientist, Jan Matsuno, “for inspiration, we looked at red bean and rice recipes from New Orleans to Central and South America.  The combination is so delicious, it is enjoyed by everyone!”

Yumbini’s version is mildly seasoned with the savory “holy trinity” vegetables of onion, green bell pepper and celery.  A favorite with kids and anyone trying to avoid hot spices, it makes a perfect base for other toppings such as avocado, grilled veggies, or a splash of vinegar.

Matsuno continues “we take a less-is-more approach.  Beans and rice are already a nutritional powerhouse that have nourished communities all over the world for generations.  Why mess with a good thing?  Using only the protein fraction of legumes for plant-based “meat” wastes all the fiber, good carbs, vitamins and minerals present in the whole bean.  All we do is pre-cook and dry the beans and rice so they cook up fast.”

Other flavors in the Yumbini line include Smoky Chipotle Black Beans and Rice, Curried Turmeric Lentils and Rice, and Cowboy BBQ Pinto Beans and Rice.

Yumbini is a woman owned start-up in Oakland, California.  It is dedicated to improving the world by making the goodness of beans and rice delicious, easy and accessible to everyone; busy people with no time to cook, as well as those who want to eat a more plant-based diet but don’t know how.  The company also hopes to demonstrate that dry packaged food does not have to be unhealthy, and to inspire others in the food industry to follow.
