Cerebelly Receives First Brain-Health Patent For Baby Food

Baby food brand Cerebelly announced in mid-December it had received the first U.S. patent of food composition designed to benefit infant neurodevelopment. The Los Gatos, California-based startup’s recipe includes 16 key nutrients supporting brain health and is in all its squeezable pouches.
Launched in 2019 by neurosurgeon and PhD of neurobiology Dr. Teresa Purzner, Cerebelly makes children’s fruit and vegetable puree pouches as well as snack bars. The company was founded as a way to get more brain-boosting nutrients into baby food.
“Our mission as a company is to make transformative changes to the way we nourish our kids,” Dr. Purzner said in a statement. “Our commitment to providing children with the optimal nutrition for cognitive development is rooted in science, and I’m proud that with this patent, we are able to give parents that extra assurance and trust that they are receiving the support they need to provide superior nutrition when their children need it most.”
The newly patented formula encourages crucial brain growth and supports cognitive functions like seeing, hearing, memory, cause and effect, attention, and social awareness among others. It comes after decades of research in the field of baby food composition by Dr. Purzner and her team of scientists, doctors and nutritionists.
Each Cerebelly puree pouch contains organic vegetables and are packed with Vitamin D, Iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin B₆, Vitamin B₁₂, Zinc, Copper, Niacin, Folate, Iodine, Selenium, Choline, Protein, DHA, Vitamin E, and Lutein to impact children’s brain health.
According to CB Insights, Cerebelly has raised $6.7 million to-date. Its products are sold online on Amazon and Thrive Market as well as through a subscription model on the company website. The company has also expanded into over 7,600 retail locations nationwide including Target, Wegmans, Meijer, Whole Foods, Giant Eagle, Kroger and more.
