This Month’s New Sweet and Savory Snacks

Better-for-you CPG brands are catering to the rising demand for nutrient-dense, better-for-you products with a range of new low-carb, low-sugar and low-calorie sweet and savory snacks over the past month.

According to Mondelez’s recent State of Snacking report, “serving nutritional needs” is predicted to become the top purchasing driver in snacks this year and 62% of consumers have reported they replace at least one meal a day with a snack.

FIELD + FARMER

Farm-to-shelf company The Fresh Factory has expanded into a new category with the launch of low-sugar refrigerated bars under its FIELD + FARMER brand in five flavors including Apple Cinnamon, Cocoa Brownie, Carrot Cake, Peanut Butter & Jelly and Peanut Butter Cookie. The new plant-based bars contain 6 grams of protein and are available for a suggested retail price of $1.99 per bar.

Alter Eco

Chocolate-centric food maker Alter Eco introduced two better-for-you sweets to the snack aisle this month: Organic Granola and Truffle Thins Dark Chocolate Bars. The former comes in Dark Chocolate, Cashew Butter, and Cinnamon Raisin flavors, while the latter is available in Classic Dark, Salted Caramel, Mint Crème and Silk Velvet. Alter Eco’s granola is available at Whole Foods for a suggested retail price of $7.49 per 8 oz. bag and the chocolate bars can be purchased online for $3.79 per bar.

Honey Mama’s

Better-for-you chocolate company Honey Mama’s unveiled its latest truffle bar flavor this month: Chocolate Cake, made with dark cocoa, honey, pecans and toasted coconut. The refrigerated bar is dairy and soy-free, doesn’t contain refined sugar and is available online in a 4-pack ($24) and 12-pack ($62) format.

Voortman

Sugar-free cookie company Voortman added Vanilla Shortbread and Iced Oatmeal flavors to its “poppable” mini cookie line. The cookies are made with whole grain oats and sweetened with maltitol syrup. The new mini cookies are available at select retailers nationwide in a 5 oz., multi-serve bag for a suggested retail price of $3.49.

Mark’s Mindful Munchies

Air-popped ancient grain chip line Pop Bitties introduced Maple & Sea Salt Sweet Potato to its flavor lineup. Made with a base of sweet potato and brown rice flour, the vegan and allergy-friendly chips contain 120 calories and 1 gram of protein per serving. Pop Bitties Maple & Sea Salt Sweet Potato Chips are available online and at retailers nationwide in a 3.5 oz. bag for a suggested retail price of $3.49.

BeHONEST

Cibo Vita, makers of Nature’s Garden, unveiled better-for-you snacking brand BeHONEST with the launch of its first product: Keto Milk Chocolate Drops. The low-carb, low-sugar, keto-friendly confection-focused brand has also announced plans to expand its line with additional better-for-you takes on classic chocolate-based treats including Milk Chocolate Mint Fat Cups, Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Fat Cups and a range of chocolate covered nuts. BeHONEST’s debut product is available at Costco stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $13.99 per 28 oz. bag.

Keto Krisp

Keto Krisp added a new Butter & Salt with Collagen to its six-SKU line of low-sugar and low-carb protein bars. The bar marks Keto Krisps first tale on a collagen snack and aims to mimic the taste of “a warm, butter pastry” and is topped with himalayan salt. The new Butter & Salt flavor is available online and at retailers nationwide including Whole Foods, Costco, Sprouts, Wegmans and Publix for $35.99 per 12-pack.

Chocke-Obleas

Mexican wafer brand Chocke-Obleas launched in the U.S. this month with low-calorie, plant based-wafer snacks in two flavors: Chocolate and Amaranth. The snacks contain a chocolate filling sandwiched between two wheat and amaranth-based wafers covered with popped amaranth and are available in 3-count packs. Chocke-Obleas are sold at select grocers in Chicago, California and Texas.
