Sunscoop Expands into Novelty with Nationwide Launch of Sundrops at Sprouts
LOS ANGELES, Calif.— Sunscoop, the female-founded, plant-based, allergen-friendly ice cream brand made with the best ingredients under the sun, launches Sundrops, a first-of-its-kind line of plant-based ice cream bonbons. Inspired by classic novelty ice cream treats, Sundrops feature Sunscoop’s signature creamy, coconut cream-based ice cream layered with cookie dough and coated in a rich chocolate shell. Like all Sunscoop products, Sundrops are completely plant-based and allergen-friendly with no dairy, gluten, or soy.
Sundrops are available in four flavors inspired by Sunscoop’s best-selling pint flavors including:
- Cookie Whoa!: Vanilla bean ice cream layered with chocolate chip cookie dough and a dark chocolate shell
- Cookies ‘n’ Coconut Cream: Coconut sweet cream ice cream layered with fudgy chocolate cookie dough and a dark chocolate shell
- Mmmint Chocolate: Cool mint chip ice cream layered with fudgy cookie dough and a rich dark chocolate shell
- Salted Caramel: Caramelly and salty-sweet toasted coconut butter ice cream layered with coconut sugar cookie dough and a dark chocolate shell
Carli & Chelsea knew for years that they wanted to innovate and do something that has never been done before. They didn’t want to make just another ice cream sandwich or bar. After many late nights recipe testing in the Sunscoop kitchen they had the epiphany for the perfect bite sized treat and Sundrops were born. Using their current ice cream flavors as inspiration, Chelsea created chewy delicious cookie doughs to pair and worked on a custom magic shell. After receiving praise from national buyers at Expo West, the team sprinted to commercialize and bring the product to market in time for category reviews and winter resets . Their incredible team moved mountains to make these tiny drops a reality and they couldn’t be more excited to bring them to market nationally.
“We wanted to create something completely original, we didn’t just want to do another bar or cookie sandwich. We wanted something deliciously indulgent where every bite was perfect. What could be better than ice cream, cookie dough, and chocolate shell all in one bite? It’s like the best bite of a pint of cookie dough ice cream over and over again.” – Chelsea
“We like to say, Sundrops are the UNICORN of frozen desserts. Ice cream. Cookie dough. And chocolate. All wrapped into the perfect bite! And they’re plant-based, gluten-free and allergen-friendly. Your mouth has never experienced anything this delicious before.” -Carli
As consumers increasingly seek out plant-based frozen novelties that offer the same indulgence as their conventional counterparts, the launch of Sundrops gives Sunscoop competitive demand in the growing plant-based ice cream and frozen dessert category. Currently valued at $30.95 billion, the frozen dessert market is poised to continue expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.6% through 2030. With the launch of Sundrops, Sunscoop brings plant-based innovation to the frozen novelty category, without compromising on taste or texture, to meet the needs of a majority of U.S. consumers (52%) who are seeking more plant-based options. Further, Sundrops cater to the 25% of Americans managing food allergies who spend $19 billion annually to avoid purchasing products with the top nine allergens, and also the 36% of the U.S. population that is lactose intolerant.
Mirroring Sunscoop’s colorful ice cream pints, the Sundrops packaging was designed by Los Angeles-based artist and independent designer Marleigh Culver.
Cookie Whoa! Cookies ‘n’ Coconut Cream and Mmmint Chocolate flavors will be sold exclusively at Sprouts Farmers Market locations nationwide landing on shelves February 6th. Sundrops will land at other national retailers late March including Whole Foods NE, Costco NE, Fresh Thyme and many more.
