Blackbird Foods Launches WINGS!
NEW YORK, N.Y.— Blackbird Foods, the plant-based startup producing New York City’s favorite local frozen pizzas and plant protein products is launching a new line of WINGS. Unlike any other plant-based wing on the market, Blackbird WINGS actually look and taste like traditional wings with their crispy outside and tender inside. After sampling the WINGS to much fanfare at two trade shows and Vegandale last month, Blackbird Foods is ready to bring the WINGS to market.
“Is there a bone in this?” an attendee asked the Blackbird Team before grabbing a sample of their new Buffalo WINGS at the recent Expo East trade show. “No,” Gavin Konkel, Blackbird’s Director of Sales said with a smile, “it’s actually 100% made from plants”. This question and “Is this chicken?” proved to be some of the most common questions the team fielded during the show. Hungry attendees were pleasantly surprised to learn that the WINGS were made from seitan, a wheat based protein that Blackbird playfully dubs “The OG Plant Protein”. Blackbird’s signature method of producing seitan results in protein with a tender and meaty texture, making it ideal in their new WINGS. After hand-battering and coating each one in sauce, Blackbird’s WINGS look shockingly similar to traditional wings. To avoid any further confusion, Blackbird Foods says they will add “naturally boneless” to the packaging before the next round of printing.
Founded by chefs in NYC, Blackbird Foods believes in using the highest quality ingredients to create restaurant quality foods. Their wildly popular hand-tossed pizzas are launching in 300 Target stores on October 9th and their products can be found on the shelves in 2,000 stores nationwide. So what made them decide to develop plant-based wings? Blackbird’s CEO, Emanuel Storch, says it was simple, “What pairs better with pizza than wings?”. With football season in full swing, there will not be many people who disagree with that logic. Each bag of WINGS comes with 10 ounces of frozen WINGS and a sauce packet. Consumers can easily bake the WINGS in an oven or air fryer until they are crispy and then coat them in sauce. As with all of Blackbird’s products, these WINGS are plant-based, vegan, non-GMO, kosher, and cholesterol free.
Blackbird is not just “winging” this new product line, CEO Emanuel Storch explains how they went through rigorous recipe testing to result in the perfect wing. “All the plant-based “wings” on the market today are just boring nuggets being branded as “wings”. We’ve spent months developing something that actually replicates the experience of eating a crispy and tender chicken wing but without the chicken of course,” says Storch.
Blackbird Foods will launch a limited batch of Buffalo and Korean BBQ WINGS on their website on October 11th. A roll out in retailers is expected to begin as soon as the end of this year. The WINGS are hand-battered to perfection with a crispy outside and tender inside.
