Atlantic Sea Farms Launches Fresh Fruit Kelp Smoothie Cubes
Biddeford, Maine – Atlantic Sea Farms recently launched two new fresh fruit kelp smoothie cubes, available at all 300+ Sprouts Farmers Markets locations and other large-scale and independent retail stores nationwide, as well as direct to consumer. Packed with nutrients and made with kelp grown in clean, cold Maine waters, the company’s full line of cravable superfood kelp products are made with seaweed grown via regenerative kelp aquaculture while creating and boosting local economies, and restoring local ecosystems.
The award-winning, mission driven, women-run, first-to-market regenerative kelp aquaculture company, which partners with independent Maine coast fishermen to grow kelp in pristine, domestic waters, has garnered a reputation for innovation and bringing healthy and delicious products to the market while making it easy for consumers to incorporate kelp into their daily diets.
The new pre-portioned, superfood kelp cubes are designed for smoothies and smoothie bowls. They build on Atlantic Sea Farms’ success with their original, single-ingredient Kelp Cubes (popular for drinks as well as sauces, pastas, rice dishes, baked goods and more), joining the company’s existing suite of five fresh-frozen and fermented kelp products, which have won coveted awards from the Good Food Foundation, Specialty Food Association and Natural Product Expo (NEXTY Awards).
Offered in two 100% fresh fruit varieties – Wild Blueberry & Ginger, and Cranberry – Atlantic Sea Farms first-to-market cubes introduce kelp to the frozen fruit category. The choice to combine kelp with wild blueberries and cranberries is no accident. In fact, it’s a nutritional Grand Slam.
One of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, kelp has naturally high levels of iodine, Omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, potassium, iron and folic acid. It also boasts the highest natural concentration of calcium of any food.
Atlantic Sea Farms Wild Blueberry & Ginger Kelp Cubes are made with wild blueberries grown on family farms. Wild blueberries are loaded with 33% more anthocyanins than ordinary blueberries. Research suggests that anthocyanins may have anti-inflammatory properties, and help improve cognitive function and heart health. An added bonus: ginger is associated with antioxidant properties.
Atlantic Sea Farms Cranberry Kelp Cubes feature cranberries grown via regenerative agriculture by family farmers. In addition to cranberry purée, they contain cranberry seeds – an upcycled, underutilized and highly nutritious part of the cranberry that contains 1.6 times more dietary fiber than chia or flax. The antioxidant properties of cranberries may help support digestive health, heart health and a strong immune system. Both products are Non-GMO Project Verified, vegan, gluten-free, made with 100% fresh fruit, and contain no added sugar.
According to a Global Market Insights Report, the commercial seaweed market is projected to reach $85 billion by 2026. “Our new kelp cubes amplify the principles that drive Atlantic Sea Farms’ entire product line of award-winning, responsibly-made kelp products. Produced with sustainably grown fruit from nearby family farms, they include the same delicious, nutrient dense, fresh kelp – line-grown by our partner fishermen farmers in Maine’s clean, cold waters – that we use in everything we make,” Atlantic Sea Farms’ CEO Briana Warner says. “As a result, these climate action products help support local farms and ocean health, all while giving your favorite smoothie a delicious, climate-friendly, plant-based, superfood boost. They speak to our mantra, ‘good food should do good’”
Atlantic Sea Farms’ domestically cultivated kelp is a climate hero. Carbon negative and hyper-efficient, it’s a regenerative, zero-input aquaculture crop that requires no fertilizer, pesticides, feeds, arable land or fresh water. Additionally, each of Atlantic Sea Farms 34 partner family farms locally mitigates effects of climate change and ocean acidification. In just three short seasons since the company’s first harvest, Atlantic Sea Farms partner farms have removed upwards of 150,000 pounds of carbon from local Maine waters. “Every product that we get into the hands of consumers helps us improve the world we are living in – and we are incredibly proud of what we’ve built,” Warner says.
Atlantic Sea Farms suggested retail prices are as follows: Wild Blueberry & Ginger Kelp Cubes, $7.99; Cranberry Kelp Cubes; $7.99, Original Kelp Cubes, $7.99, 12-ounce Ready-Cut Kelp, $8.99; and 15-ounce jarred Sea-Chi, Sea Beet Salad, and Fermented Seaweed Salad, $8.99.
