LivBar to Launch in All Oregon and Washington Whole Foods

SALEM, Ore.— Whole Foods will add an undoubtedly unique energy bar to its shelves in February 2020. Oregon-based LivBar is one of the only baked, all-organic energy bars in the nation that also comes packaged in its own compostable wrapper. The bars are both crunchy and chewy, and are popular with athletes, dieticians, and health-conscious families.

Whole Foods will be selling three of LivBar’s flavors: Blueberry Vanilla Kale, Coffee Maple Cacao, and Ginger Lemon Turmeric. The bars will initially roll out in 21 stores in the Pacific Northwest region spanning Oregon and Washington, anticipating a national rollout by 2021.

Shortly after the bars’ launch, Whole Foods will feature Livbar Founder Jan Johansen as part of a Local Supplier series that will highlight local founders and makers in the Pacific Northwest.

“When I first created these bars for my clients back in 2012, I never dreamed that one day we’d be selling them in Whole Foods,” Johansen said. The bars started as a humble snack that Johansen whipped up for an open house when she could not find any energy bars on shelves she felt good recommending to her fitness and nutrition clients. She never intended to market them to stores, but their popularity only continued to grow. “It just goes to show that there is an undeniable demand for organic, whole foods in the energy bar aisle,” said Johansen.

LivBar has rapidly gained momentum since CEO Wade Brooks came on in early 2019, gaining national distribution and winning an impressive string of awards, including Entrepreneur of the Year, Most Mindful Consumer Packaged Good, and Oregon Organic Processor of the Year.

“This is just the beginning,” says Brooks. “We’re already executing on our rapid expansion plans for 2020.”

LivBars are currently available in 30 states, online at Amazon Prime, Amazon Subscribe and Save, direct from the LivBar website (www.livbar.com), and in hundreds of stores including Erewhon, New Seasons Markets, Market of Choice, Zupan’s, Garden Bar by Evergreen, Roth’s Fresh Markets, and now Whole Foods.

LivBar is distributed nationally through UNFI, KeHE, McLane, and DPI Specialty Foods.

About LivBar

LivBar was founded in 2012 in Salem, Oregon, by two nutrition and fitness experts, Jan and Gabe Johansen. Jan was challenged to find any truly healthy energy bars she could recommend to her clients, so she created the LivBar recipes. LivBars are crunchy and chewy and come in five delicious superfood flavors: Coffee Maple Cacao, Raspberry Kale Maca, Blueberry Vanilla Kale, Ginger Lemon Turmeric, and Lemongrass Cherry Matcha.
