Supernatural and PieShell Create The Girl Pow! Project

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Some heroes wear capes, some eat cake. Supernatural and PieShell have joined forces to create The Girl Pow! Project, a grassroots effort encouraging more women to take their ideas out of the office, and into the world. Propelled by the belief that the best people to address problems affecting women, are women, The Girl Pow! Project is about rallying females everywhere to get involved, get brave and bring their ideas into the light. But not least solving pay inequality, gender bias and other serious issues is more work than play, The Girl Pow! Project is also about – sprinkles.

As female-founded food startups, Supernatural and PieShell are kicking things off the best way they know how: By producing a new superhero(ine)-themed sprinkle, and donating 100% of the pre-sale profits to an organization that represents Girl Pow! to its fullest: Girls Who Code. Pre-sale participants will be decorating their treats with female empowerment as soon as production is complete in April, while helping to close the gender gap in technology.

“When Reshma Saujani, the CEO and Founder of Girls Who Code, set out to solve one of the biggest problems in tech, she had no idea that her free coding programs would reach 50,000 girls in six years,” said Carmel Hagen, Founder and CEO of Supernatural. “If Reshma hadn’t believed in herself and her idea, thousands of girls, and an entire industry, wouldn’t have the same bright future. That’s Girl Pow!.”

Beginning on International Women’s Day, the new sprinkle will be available for pre-order on PieShell, the crowdfunding platform with a passionate community focused on food, innovation, and giving. For a limited time, the sprinkles – featuring mini boxing gloves, primary colors, and pow! stars, and made without artificial dyes, palm oil, soy or other common allergens – will also be featured atop treats at select female-founded NYC bakeries and ice cream shops, including Blue Marble Ice Cream, Butter & Scotch and Once Upon a Tart.
