Cisse Cocoa Rebrands to Cocomama

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Today, Cisse Cocoa Co. unveiled their full rebrand at Natural Products Expo West. They’ve re-named the company Cocomama, their goddess of health and happiness. At Cocomama, indulgence and wellness are mutually inclusive. Cocomama will continue to retail (online, and in-store) the same ethical products—delicious baking mixes and hot cocoas made from natural, fair trade ingredients—that made Cissé Cocoa Co. a literal household name.

Consumer feedback and market research indicated that, while Cissé products were beloved for their luxurious flavors and ease of use, the name was very hard to spell and pronounce and the black packaging was lost on shelves.

Cissé worked with creative agency Peck & Co. (the group behind Halo Top’s famous rebrand) on the visual look of the brand, which encapsulates bold minimalism at its best. The vibe is playful, colorful, experiential, and fun. The new branding and name does an even better job communicating the company’s overarching mission: to leverage their brand as a platform for eradicating global hunger and extreme poverty.

“I really do believe that business can and should be part of the solution in solving global problems—like inclusion in the international economy as a means to eradicating extreme poverty,” said founder Diana Lovett. “I certainly think nonprofits and governments have a role, but business does too.”

Since 2012, Cissé Cocoa Co. has expanded their reach from 30 to over 4,000 retail locations, and have even bigger plans for Cocomama.
