Eclipse Foods

Overview
Eclipse Foods is on a mission to create a more sustainable, healthy, and humane food system with delicious plant-based products that do better for people, animals, and the planet. The company was co-founded by Aylon Steinhart, an alternate protein expert who incubated and advised start-ups in the alt protein space, and Thomas Bowman, a renowned food scientist and chef who worked in restaurants totaling 16 Michelin stars. In 2019, Eclipse Foods debuted in scoop shops through partnerships with beloved ice cream brands such as OddFellows in New York City and Humphry Slocombe in San Francisco. Building on this success, the company then expanded its reach nationwide through its Chef Series pints, collaborating with some of the best chefs in the world, including Michael Tusk of 3 Michelin star rated restaurant Quince and Corey Lee of 3 Michelin star rated restaurant Benu. Shortly after, the company expanded into retail; and in 2022, partnered with Smashburger, giving consumers the first ever non-dairy milkshakes available nationwide at a fast casual restaurant chain. Eclipse Foods has raised over $50MM to date, has been named a Y Combinator Top company 2 years in a row, and is backed by luminaries including Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Gmail creator Paul Buchheit, Beyond Meat chairman and Honest Tea founder Seth Goldman, and top VCs such as Y Combinator, Sozo Ventures, Forerunner Ventures, KBW Ventures and Initialized Capital.
