Louisville Roaster Launches Line of Craft Whole-Bean Coffees

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 18, 2016) – – – Louisville coffee roaster Matt Argo has launched Good Folks Coffee Company with a line of whole-bean offerings created in his Shelby Park roastery. The craft outlet focuses on farmer relations to source ethically-traded coffees to roast in-house. Products, including single-origins, blends and espresso varieties, are now available at select grocery stores and cafes as well as online at goodfolkscoffee.com. Argo plans to expand availability in shops and cafés throughout the South and Midwest in 2016.

“Your day is only as good as your coffee,” says Argo. “Whether its selecting coffees from farmers in Colombia or carefully studying roast levels and varietals for the perfect blend, our goal is to offer high-quality coffee that’s approachable and unique.”

Screen Shot 2016-02-18 at 3.45.23 PMAfter 8 years in the Army National Guard and a deployment to Baghdad, Iraq in 2004 and 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Arkansas native set his sights on Louisville, a bigger city with a small-town feel, to start a coffee business. Blending his passions for person-to-person business relationships, international travel and fine coffee, Argo, formerly of Argo Sons Coffee, branched out on his own to build Good Folks’s wholesale and online subscription endeavors in 2015.

He moved into the renovated space at 1151 S. Shelby St. last summer with the help of local impact-investment group Access Ventures and teamed with lead roaster Zach Hensley to launch this new brand. The lab and roastery is outfitted with plenty of grinders and espresso machines for quality control and training for wholesale accounts. Good Folks plans to open the space to the public for scheduled events that focus on tasting and learning about different coffees and brewing methods.

Current Good Folks products (starting at $15 for a 12-ounce bag) bear names inspired by world travel and Kentucky culture and are available online and on shelves including:
