Block 15 Brewing is a locally owned company born out of a passion for thoughtfully and excellently produced food and craft beer, as well as social and environmental sustainability, local partnerships, and generously giving back to our community.
First established in 2008 as a community-oriented brewpub, Block 15 has since grown to include three locations in Corvallis—a community-focused brewpub, a production brewery and tap room, and a sibling restaurant in Caves Corvallis—alongside Block 15 Distribution Company, which is focused on bringing craft beer and goods from regional artisans to markets around the PNW.
Job Overview
The Group General Manager (GGM) is a key executive leadership role responsible for driving operational excellence and promoting company culture across three distinct restaurant locations. This position requires a visible, hands-on leader who is passionate about delivering exceptional guest hospitality, fostering craft beer education, and committed to developing top-tier management talent. The GGM serves as the critical operational voice, connecting our three front lines directly to the COO to ensure flawless execution of our brand vision and achieve consistency across the entire group.
I. Reporting Structure
The Group General Manager reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). The GGM's direct reports include the Location Managers of each of the three restaurant units.
II. Key Responsibilities
A. Strategic Reporting & Brand Leadership
- Hospitality-First Strategy: Directly responsible for establishing and reporting on group-wide initiatives that actively elevate the level of guest hospitality, ensuring the brand promise is delivered consistently through relational experiences.
- Executive Reporting: Serves as the primary operational liaison to the COO and CEO, discussing reports on key performance indicators related to brand integrity, guest satisfaction, leadership development, and operational consistency.
- Financial Execution Support: Supports the financial strategy set by the COO and Controller by ensuring rigorous execution of labor scheduling, inventory control, and cost management practices at the unit level.
B. Leadership & Talent Development
- Coaching & Mentoring: Directs, coaches, and evaluates the performance of the three Location General Managers, focusing on developing their business acumen, accountability, and leadership of high-performing teams.
- Active Presence: Maintains a high level of active physical presence across the three locations, providing real-time coaching and modeling the highest standards of hospitality and leadership.
- Succession Planning: Implements talent development programs to build a robust internal leadership pipeline, reducing reliance on external recruitment for key roles.
C. Product Quality & Operational Oversight
- Quality Partnership: Ensures superior product quality by actively collaborating with the Executive Chef and Head Brewer to uphold product quality, ingredients, and presentation and knowledge standards across all three units.
- Operational Audits: Conducts regular, on-site operational and hospitality audits, ensuring all units maintain strict adherence to product knowledge, health, safety, and brand standards.
D. Guest Hospitality, Events & Marketing Collaboration
- Hospitality Consistency: Establishes and enforces unified guest experience and hospitality standards, using in-person observations, employee feedback channels, and customer feedback (surveys, reviews) to drive targeted operational improvements. Recognizes the nuances of individual locations while also ensuring cultural and brand cohesion across locations.
- Community Ambassador: As the face of the company’s retail locations, maintains a strong connection with the local community, partner organizations, business members, and the broader community
- Event Planning & Execution: Oversees the planning, organization, and execution of all company-wide and localized events across the three restaurant locations, ensuring events support brand goals and drive community engagement.
- Marketing Partnership: Collaborates with the Marketing & Creative Manager to ensure all in-store branding, promotional materials, and campaigns support the hospitality-focused guest experience.
III. Required Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated passion for craft beer, high-quality food, and the hospitality industry.
- Proven experience successfully managing high-volume restaurants.
- Exceptional ability to lead, motivate, and develop managers and teams through effective coaching and accountability.
- Deep understanding of the principles of high-level hospitality and guest retention strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and strategically with leadership on non-financial performance metrics (brand integrity, people development, quality).
- A high degree of mobility and flexibility to ensure consistent, effective presence across all managed locations.
IV. Schedule Expectations for Group General Manager
The Group General Manager's role is a full-time, salaried, exempt position that requires the hours necessary to meet the demands of multi-unit executive management and to report directly to the COO.
Time Allocation & Focus
- Active Management & Location Presence (Approx. 70% of Time): This time is allocated for active, hands-on management, auditing, and coaching across the three units. This includes conducting operational, knowledge, and hospitality audits, real-time coaching of Location General Managers and unit teams, and modeling high-level hospitality during peak periods.
- Strategic & Administrative Function (Approx. 30% of Time): This time is dedicated to high-level responsibilities, including executive reporting, leadership development planning, P&L analysis support, event planning, and cross-functional collaboration (Marketing, Culinary, Brewery & Locations Managers).
Scheduling Requirements
- Location Mobility: The weekly schedule requires a consistent physical presence at all three restaurant locations to ensure active management and equitable oversight. This allocation, however, remains flexible, allowing for deeper focus or increased time commitment at specific locations when necessitated by major company campaigns, strategic operational initiatives, or scheduled events.
- Shift Variation: Every month, hours will span a variety of day parts (openings and closings) to audit operational standards and leadership performance under different conditions effectively.
- Weekend & Holiday Availability: The GGM will be strategically available during critical periods, major holidays, and key company events to support the brand's highest-volume times. A minimum of two weekend days per month will be utilized for planned on-site audits, coaching, or executive commitments.
