Announcing Yumbini Garden Herb NO SALT ADDED Pinto Beans and Rice
PRESS RELEASE
July 20, 2026
Yumbini Foods, LLC of Oakland, CA announces the addition of Garden Herb NO SALT ADDED Pinto Beans and Rice to its line of quick bean and rice dry mixes. This new flavor comes at the request of many consumers concerned about sodium in packaged food.
During more than a year of development, founder and food scientist Jan Matsuno first experimented with different additives and salt substitutes. But in the end, she settled on pure and simple: just remove the salt. Then enhance the delicious goodness of hearty pinto beans and rice with garden herbs and vegetables, like parsley, bell pepper, onion and celery. Full of flavor, no weird ingredients, but NO SALT ADDED.
Matsuno explains, “Even though our current Yumbini flavors are quite moderate in salt, 480 mg sodium in a large 1.5 cup serving, we wanted to provide an alternative. This way consumers can adjust the salt level however they want. Think of Garden Herb as a ‘blank slate’: enjoy as-is or add a dash or two of salt.”
“Even better, we notice that when salt is sprinkled over beans and rice, it is more impactful. The salt grains hit your mouth first, making the food taste saltier than if the salt were mixed in. It’s a win-win!”
Garden Herb also shines as a base for salads, soups and bowls, paired with other foods such as vegetables, cheese, nuts & seeds, salsa or salad dressing. The Yumbini recipes page provides more inspiration.
Like other Yumbini flavors, Garden Herb is a simple blend of beans, rice and seasonings. It is vegan with no gluten or “big 9” allergens. More beans than rice makes it high in fiber, low in saturated fat, with 15g protein; all without added sugar, preservatives, or MSG. One package, combined with water and heated, makes a satisfying meal in just 6 minutes.
Other flavors in the Yumbini line include Smoky Chipotle Black Beans and Rice, Curried Turmeric Lentils and Rice, Cowboy BBQ Pinto Beans and Rice, and Mild & Creamy Red Beans and Rice.
Yumbini is a woman owned start-up, based in Oakland, California. It is dedicated to improving the world by making the goodness of beans and rice delicious, easy and accessible to everyone; busy people with no time to cook, as well as those who want to eat a more plant-based diet but don’t know how. The company also hopes to demonstrate that dry packaged food does not have to be unhealthy, and to inspire others in the food industry to follow. Yumbini is available at SF Bay Area retailers and online at yumbini.com.
