Since 2006, Equifruit has been on a mission to right the wrongs of the banana industry with a 100% Fairtrade commitment. Under the Fairtrade Standards, banana farmers are paid a minimum price of their fruit, set independently by Fairtrade International. In addition, for every case of bananas sold, Equifruit pays $1 US in Fairtrade Premium directly to grower communities. They decide how they spend it, whether it’s schools, healthcare, clean water, climate resilience, or other community investments. To date, Equifruit has paid over $4.7 million US to banana producers.
