Founded by Yvon Chouinard, founder of outdoor clothing company Patagonia, and CPG entrepreneur Birgit Cameron in 2012, the Sausalito, California-based CPG food spin-off has been steadily building a diverse portfolio of USDA Organic, Non-GMO, shelf-stable products like jerky, tinned seafood, just-add-water soups and chilis, dried fruits and nuts, grains, and nut butters.
This year saw the B Corporation capitalize on the success of the company’s partnership with Dogfish Head Brewery to create a perennial-grain beer, while also releasing a dried fusilli pasta using the sustainable Kernza grain which aligns with its commitment to creating responsibly sourced food and beverage products.
The company saw new leadership in 2022, bringing aboard Brightfarms founder and former CEO of BrightFarms Paul Lightfoot as General Manager -- who also previously served as member and chairman of the USDA's Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee. Lightfoot’s addition, as well as Chouinard’s move to transfer ownership of the larger Patagonia company to trust and nonprofit organization Holdfast Collective, should set the CPG brand on a path to be able to continue its mission and work into the future.
